    3. Yet another Banks' mystery but with a new twist : an historical dimension to the plot. The atmosphere is there, together with quite a sphisticated story.

    4. Super, Alan Banks et Annie en duo. J'adore les deux personnages. Le livre est bien construit. Je le recommande vivement.

    5. As "In a Dry Season" opens, a prolonged drought in Yorkshire has revealed the remains of a village that decades earlier had been flooded to make a reservoir, and in the village are found the remains of a young woman. Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks is assigned to the case by his superior, Chief Constable Riddle, who hates his guts and sees this assignment as a punishment. In the meantime, Banks’ wife of 20 years has left him, and he has no idea if he can start a new life on his own, or [...]

    6. It's a masterpiece in every way except one. Several suspects are paraded in front of the reader with the author attaching potential motives and supporting that with actions and dialogue. The killer isn't among them, making little more than cameo appearances and leaving it up to you to infer a reason. Just one cross word, sideways glance or other sign that the culprit bore any ill will toward the victim and it would merit a perfect score. Instead, we are taken right up to the end and a rabbit is [...]

    7. Friends had been suggesting for some time that I should read Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks books. I am so glad I did as it introduced me to one of the best British police procedural series around. Both Detective Chief Inspector Alan Banks and Detective Sergeant Annie Cabbot have run foul of the Yorkshire Police administration and have been posted to police career Siberia by politically sensitive and seemingly inept Chief Constable Jerimiah (Jimmy) Riddle. (Isn't it interesting how many Police [...]

    8. This is a fabulous novel that really stretches both the crime genre and the reader's knowledge of the wonderful central character, Alan Banks. It is my favourite Inspector Banks novel to date (though I haven't read them in order and thoroughly enjoyed gaining so much of Banks' back story and discovering elements of his private life). This novel opens when a village that has lain beneath a reservoir for decades, Hobbs End, is exposed after a particularly dry season. Keen to explore the rotting r [...]
