    2. I am an absolute beginner at origami and I'm sorry, but this is not a book for absolute beginners. If you are buying it for a child, it's even worse. My son learned some simple origami from friends and wanted to learn more. The first project we tried was the first complete origami object in the book, the star (p 28). Step one for the star requires that you go back to page 22 and make the "preliminary base". There are 8 "bases" at the front of the book. To make the star, you need to make the [...]

    3. I wanted to get a book that was simple enough before attempting themore advanced ones I'm interested in. So I figured with the reviews and descriptionof the book that this would be the perfect fit. Wrong. The book is nice enough. In a sense it is helpful for beginnerseillustrations are nice and references are helpful as well. However the author missteps quite often in terms of vague directions withno supporting illustrations. Several times I've had to google online instructionsand found they were [...]

    4. I have found over the years that the most important thing in an origami book is clear diagrams. This book, in addition to clear diagrams has excellent photographs. The pictures were taken in such a way as to let the reader see exactly what the folder was doing. Each project has reminder sketches of how to fold its base. This elimanates flipping around through the book from project to base to project. Its a very nice feature for beginners and forgetfullers. I would have liked more projects, but th [...]

    5. On a scale from Boo! to Amazing! this book scores a solid Meh.cially when compared with other books in the beginner origami genre. What is worse is that only the out-of-print, hardback edition of this book comes with paper. I actually found the older version of it at Borders Books for less money and bought it without realizing they're the same book. The hardback version is almost worth the money just because of the paper. The paper is pretty nice. A variety of sizes, patterns and colors. This ver [...]

    6. The author's directions begin clearly, and the pictures are helpful; but mid-way through a set of instructions, the author says the next step "easily" happens, or "the paper will form into a shape like a," but there is no actual instruction at that point how to really get to the next step or the next picture. The directions break down. That next step does not "just happen" as claimed, nor is it self-evident how to get to the next picture; so without instruction at a given point, you get part way [...]
