    1. I purchased this book because I bought Sam's Teach Yourself HTML in 24 Hours and that book was excellent from beginning to end and very easy to learn so I thought I would give this a try. I was terribly wrong. I am a total beginner and within the 4th hour I was lost. This book was not set up the same as Sam's HTML 24 Hour book. He tells how to write javascript but does not give you examples of how it should appear. He also tells you about things like applets, scroling messages, etc and dosen [...]

    2. You need at least 3 books on any programming language you want to learn - especially if you're a new programmar. Each book will explain things a little bit different and this book gives applicable and relevant examples as well as step by step analysis of each line in many cases. It lacks a lot of the in-depth "how and why's" of more detailed books, but as a newbie you don't need or want the JavaScript "Bible's". You need to learn the fundamentals and that is what this book will teach you. [...]

    3. A writer has to write to a "market" and Michael has done an excellent job presenting Javascript to the newcomer. He has lots of examples covering most everything you might want to do with Javascript from rollovers to forms verification. This is NOT a comprehensive Javascript reference, but after working through this book, you'll be ready for one.I use this book in my classes at NYU and the students are actually doing Javascript this term something that didn't happen with the book I used la [...]

    4. This book is excellent like a breath of fresh air. I bought 2 other books, the bible and O'reilly but this book keeps you awake and disseminates the information in small, painless, digestable quantities that are actually fun to read and try out. The book is not a reference and I use my other books for that. If you want to learn Javascript as a beginnner buy this book and run with it. You won't put it down till the end. Please!! Please could the author write a book on Java programming and C++ [...]

    5. the only promis that did not match is the 24 hour logo. it took me about the half (12 h). so if you want to be amused by a book buy another. if you want to lear javascript, this IS a good way. of course you are not a full educated expert after one book. a good thing would have been an additional appendix which could have been an alphabetical reference. but this is just an idea if the author comes here for getting ideas for the next release.

    6. I Am a programmer. Not professionally but I do it for fun. I program in Pascal and C++. When I decided to learn JavaScript, I picked this up because I liked sams teach yourself borland C++ 5 in 21 days and it taught me C++ very well. The book is a good guide. Most of the problems the other reviewers had was browser conflicts. Depending on the browser I used, all of the code and examples worked as described in the book.

    7. With many years of programming experience in VB, I needed a simple discussion of the basic syntax of JavaScript, and I needed it fast. This book hit the spot. There are errors in the sample code, as there are in every IT book I've ever read (including a few rare errors in the Wrox books!). This one is not too bad on that account. The text is tight and readable, and the examples clear and fairly well focused. It naturally lacks the depth required to build complex JavaScript applications, [...]

    8. I come from a strong VB/VBScript background and wanted to find a book that would go over the basics of Javascript quickly. I found the first 8 "hours" to be a bit of a waste. The book did not even mention objects until hour nine. I went through the first third of the book in about three hours. I'm now shopping for a better reference book. However, if you have little or no programming experience this might be a good choice. I have not yet found any errors (although I'm sure at least one exist [...]
