    1. This book is extremely valuable. The author has done a very precise work and has put together a kind of systematic methodology of reading "aggadic" midrash.I personnaly appreciated this work which opened my eyes on midrashim I knew since my very young age without seeing the issues which should naturally raise when reading them.I recommand this book to anyone interested to have an adult reading of the midrash.

    2. This book may seem to be written for either tanakh educators or their students; and, in fact, it could make an excellent textbook or guide as part of an academic (or very adventurous and ambitious adult education ) course. It is openly accessible, with little attached dogma, and serious about its subject without the unnecessary hyperbolic and slavish worship of the printed word. But the real beneficiary of this text could well be the pulpit rabbi of any denomination. Far too often, the rabbi will [...]

    3. This is a very impressive introduction to agaddic midrash. All examples are analyzed in English translation, so you don't need to be able to read Hebrew or Aramaic to follow all the discussion. (Pertinent excerpts in the original language are included as an appendix.) The author's tone is very down-to-earth and helpful throughout. The methodology she introduces isn't so much an algorithm for interpreting the midrash, as an algorithm for finding the most important questions that should be asked [...]

    4. Christian Bible readers should study Midrash and thereby gain greater insight into the Jewish method into, and philosophy towards, their interpretation of Hebrew biblical texts. As "chosen people" (sic) it seems that they have a much more familiar "way" with their God and feel quite at home questioning him and his sacred script in a way that would be considered somewhat blasphemous to traditional Christians. It is almost as if there were two gods ; Yahweh, the god of Israel, and the god of Jesus [...]

    5. As someone who is familiar with Midrash, this book was recommended to me to add to/increase my understanding and meaning of Midrash' it is doing so.

    6. This is an important book.Unfortunately Jews sit in synagogues today and hear sermons filled with Midrash and haven't the slightest idea what parts of the rabbi's talk is really in the Bible, what parts are Midrash, and whether the rabbi's view is based on the Torah, the Midrash or the rabbi's own opinion. This is tragic since the sermon is supposed to instruct not confuse.Simi Peters explains what Midrash is, why it was developed, what it intends to accomplish and what are its methods and style [...]
