    1. I haven’t read this series in reading order…but having read most of the contemporary ones, which I have really enjoyed, I decided to read the ones I missed….even though I am not a great lover of historical romance. But I am so surprised by how much I am enjoying the books set in the Victorian Era, which begins with book #1, Second Sight /book/show/1 The author’s vivid imagery brings living in that era to life - You are transported to Victorian London……One of the things I like in this [...]

    2. Historical romance readers will be very, very happy with Amanda Quick/Jayne Ann Krentz/Jayne Castle's newest 'Arcane Society' novel, "The Perfect Poison". This is the long awaited story of Caleb Jones, founder of Jones & Jones Investigations. As a long-time and fervent (rabid might be more truthful) fan of the author, I loved how she contrived connections, both written and implied, to her contemporary 'Arcane Society' books and her Jayne Castle Harmony/St Helens books. But even if you've not [...]

    3. ❝me people could actually commit murder without leaving any clues or evidence. The perfect poison, she said softly. Undetectable and untraceable. ❞A quick summary of this book: Sherlock Holmes meets the X-Men meets Emma. What I Liked:-The style and pacing of the story took me back to that time in middle school when we had to read The Hound of the Baskervilles. I loved the mood and suspense of that story as much as this one - although The Perfect Poison wasn't nearly as creepy.-I liked the c [...]

    4. Long story short, I liked this one much better than "The Third Circle." I am still not thrilled about the lack of a true ending with these books though. The way that Amanda Quick/Jayne Anne Krentz, etc. wrote these, is that you have to read contemporary and regency books in order to follow this series. I tried to read one of the contemporary novels before, and I was not a fan. So I just tend to stick to the Amanda Quick titles. This book follows Lucinda Bromley and Caleb Jones. Readers should be [...]

    5. The sixth addition to the Arcane Socirty series by Amanda Quick/Jayne Ann Krentz. Lucinda Bromley assists the police occasionally to determine if poison is involved in deaths. She assists on one that has her concerned because the poison used contained a plant that was stolen from her. In the past she was suspected of poisoning her fiancé so she consults with Caleb Jones to help her discover who the thief was.I grabbed this from my TBR because I needed a title that began with a P for a reading c [...]

    6. Oh, man, this book. Let's say 2.5 stars. I should start by saying that it was definitely engaging enough to make the extensive driving that I do for tutoring less onerous. At the same time, it was kind of a mess. I have read my fair share (or maybe more?) of romance novels, and I get how the general plot goes. They meet, they fight, they fall in love, etc. The way this book was laid out made no sense to me, though. They meet, they have sex almost immediately, they kind of fight, then in the next [...]

    7. The Perfect Poison by Amanda QuickPenelope has two great passions in her life (aside, of course, from her fly-fishing addicted husband and two rocking kids)mantic fiction and plants. Yes, along time ago (in a galaxy far, far away) Penelope earned a degree in plant science from an ivy league university, and her obsession with plants continues to this day. So, just imagine my delight to discover a book that combines these two obsessions! The Perfect Poison by Amanda Quick is so right up my alley, [...]

    8. Krentz/Quick/Castle did her usual outstanding job with the latest Arcane Society novel. We learn more about things mentioned as institutions in the contemporary novels - Jones and Jones and Arcane style matchmaking in particular. Although extensive references are made to other books in the series - reading this out of order is doable. Books below are in chronological order - numbers refer to publication order [Yeah, it's as convoluted as some of her plots!:] This is romantic suspense - it has se [...]

    9. Me gusto.

    11. As leader of the newly-founded paranormal investigative agency Jones & Company, Caleb Jones has his hands full. But that doesn't prevent him from taking on another assignment. A peculiar one, not really in league with what his agency deals with. This is a case of a fern-napping. Someone stole a precious, rare fern from a lady's conservatory and said lady wants the plant back. Quickly. Before she is thrown in jail because of a poison derived from her fern. Not that Lucinda concocted that poiso [...]

    12. Fantasic Cross-Genre BookFantasic Cross-Genre BookTHE PERFECT POISON is the sixth book in the Arcane Society series. The Arcane series is about a society of those with paranormal talents. The books span historicals (Amanda Quick), contemporaries (Jayne Ann Krentz) and futuristic (Jayne Castle). There is a secret cabal within Arcane that is plotting to perfect and use the formula for criminal purposesE [...]

    14. I think it's interesting how Amanda Quick / Jayne Ann Krentz goes back and forth between the late Victorian era in England to contemporary US West Coast in the Arcane Society novels. I found the origins of J&J and presumably arcanematch in this novel interesting and also gave a better understanding of several of the things that happen in the contemporary novels. I also appreciated the opportunity for characters from two of the former novels to make appearances in this book, as well as a poss [...]

    15. This is another great entry in the Arcane Society series. I love these books. In this one, the heroine has a botany talent that's pretty interesting and helpful in solving crimes. The hero is a Jones, but they fit together well, and she actually realizes it. They don't spend three-fourths of the book fighting the connection like sometimes happens. It also talks about the founding of the Jones & Jones investigation agency.

    16. The Perfect Poison is probably the first historical in Jayne Ann Krentz's Arcane Society that I actually, really, really liked.  For whatever reason, I'm not entirely certain, since it doesn't stray far from the story lines of the previous two historical installments in this series.  Could be that, while I didn't really have any problem with the previous two books' characters, I didn't really care for them all that much either--I think it was the romances that didn't do it for me, even thoug [...]

    18. Author: Jayne Ann Krentz writing as Amanda QuickFirst published: 2009Length: 340 pagesSetting: London. Late Victorian.Sex: Reasonably explicit but infrequent.Hero: Arcane Society high ranking and member of Jones family. Sees patterns in chaos.Heroine: thought to have killed her fiancé. ParaBotanist - can sense poisons.Starting to get a Warehouse 13 feel, hunting for artifacts and Secret Inner Groups with Hidden Plots, the Arcane Society Victorian series continues to satisfy. They may be pulp and [...]

    19. For my next foray into borrowed paperbacks, I read my first ever Jayne Ann Krentz book (Amanda Quick is a pen name). First to my adult knowledge, that is; it’s possible that I read one in my murky past of random books, but it didn’t stick. You know what? She’s a pretty good writer! Who knew? Besides the millions of people who’ve already read her, I mean. The Perfect Poison is an Arcane Society Novel. Late in the reign of Queen Victoria, the Arcane Society was full of people with psychical [...]

    21. Arcane Society Book 6 by Amanda Quick (Jayne Ann Krentz)Set in Late Victorian TimesLucinda Bromley, an Arcane Society member and talented botanist, is a young woman who has the ability to detect poisons. Accused of killing her father and her fiancee by poisoning, Lucinda is not welcome in the society scene.Caleb Jones, an Arcane Society member and descendent of Sylvester Jones who founded the society, has the ability to see patterns in unrelated instances, which is useful for a hunter. Caleb has [...]

    22. The Perfect Poison4 StarsSynopsisLucinda Bromley is a botanist with the unique ability to detect any poison but she also has a notorious reputation following the suspicious death of her fiance. When a man is poisoned by a rare fern, Lucinda fears becoming the prime suspect and requests the help of Caleb Jones, a man known for being able to decipher any clue. 23. I must confess that I hadn't picked up one of Amanda Quick's books in a long time and I was a bit undecided about reading one in the middle of a series. But Rosario's review intrigued me and the book was available so I decided to give it a go. And I am very glad that I did. I'm not sure if I will pick up the others in the series but this was a book I enjoyed.I had no trouble with the paranormal aspects of the story and the characters' talents, they didn't overwhelm the story and the little bits [...]

    24. Ever wonder what would have happened if Sherlock Holmes, the master of dispassionate problem-solving, found his equal? Yeah, me too! Especially since the BBC’s most recent incarnation of Sherlock came out and boy do I have a mind crush on him.Back to the point, Belinda. Why should you read this book? Because it’s about a woman who knows she has a talent and isn’t afraid to use it. It’s about a man who recognizes that talent and respects her for it, even if he doesn’t understand it. It [...]

    25. I get drawn in by the writing and the characters, but the book as a whole left me feeling disappointed. Since I was compelled to read it, probably a 3.5, but I rounded down since the ending left me disappointed - though I think I ordered another in the series. If it comes I'll probably give it a try. Maybe it is the series formatLucinda is a well-off, notorious botanist, who was a suspect in her father's and fiance's murder. While helping the police she discovers a poison was used in another mur [...]

    26. After suffering through "A Little Life", I needed to read something light and breezy. Happily, a wife of a co-worker wanted to get rid of boxes of romance novels. I'm a sucker for free books. I hauled them home and grabbed this one to read.I have never read Amanda Quick nee Jayne Ann Krentz nee Jayne Castle, which surprises me give the sheer number of books she's written. This short novel had enough mystery and humor to keep me happy. The sex scenes were hilarious in their purple prose rampage b [...]

    27. I suppose that Amanda Quick is a comfort read. Two of my favorite historical romances were written by her. Ravished and Mischief. I reread Ravished all the time and this book (with paranormal elements) reminded me of that book. Two oddball characters are thrown together and must work together to solve a mystery, in this case, who stole a rare fern (loved that) and how that thief connected a series of deaths which all turned out to be murders.Quick doesn't emote as much as she did in the beginnin [...]

    28. A good addition to the Arcane Society series. Lucinda is talented in detecting poisons, and when she is called in by Scotland Yard about a possible murder, she recognizes her stolen plant as one of the ingredients of the poison so she hires Caleb to find the thief. Caleb soon finds this case intersects with the society's search for a scientist who was working on re-creating the founder's formula. Lucinda and Caleb work together beautifully and I love that she not only considers herself a partner [...]

    29. This book has been on my bookshelf for quite some time. I am glad I finally read it and I'm pleasantly surprised. I didn't know that this book was the 6th in a series, nor did I know that it had some paranormal nature. It kind of had a bit of the Parasol Protectorate feel to it, by Gail Carriger. This book was much better than I anticipated. The love interest felt real without being overly done and sappy. I liked the characters and connected with them. It was a fun entertaining read with mystery [...]
