    1. (See my review of Amanda for my general impressions of the series.)I've owned this one for years, which didn't really put it at the top of the list for the Great Sunfire Re-Read, but I went ahead and forced it down while waiting for some others to arrive in the mail.Rachel Roth (formerly Rothkowski until the Ellis Island folks did a chop-chop) has just arrived in America in 1910, having fled the persecution of the Jews in Poland. The Roths have to share an apartment with their relatives, the Ros [...]

    2. It was my dumb choice to read this one immediately on the heels of another Schurfranz Sunfire, and the utter sameness of both books almost drove me to forfeit a PBS credit and rip this puppy up into a thousand pieces. I'm really glad I only read 2 books in this series when I was a tween, because if I had read any of Schurfranz' books - and liked them! - I'd be seriously wondering about the intellectual tastes of my younger self.Schurfranz' shortcomings have been enumerated by other reviewers on [...]

    3. Why, yes, Joshua. Page 37 *is* way too soon to declare your undying love for someone you've just met. Ugh. Already this is reminding me of Lumpen Karl in that awful Titanic one."Her wondrous hair"? WTF"Hmmmmwhy, oh why could my cousin possibly hate me? I can't even begin to think what it could be!" Rachel is quite the unintelligent twit.Rachel is an idiot and these are getting tedious. Schurfranz character don't smile, frown or shrug. Their mouths pull up (or down) and their shoulders move sligh [...]

    4. Taking a trip down memory lane with this oneI loved these books when I was a kid. I just re-read this one about a Jewish girl working at the Triangle in 1911 NYC. The adult me would give this book 3 stars, but the kid men, I loved these! History and romance all in one. So I gave it 4. :)

    5. Waxing Nostalgic #11- This book is about an immigrant family from Poland arriving in New York and trying to find the balance between tradition and religion and the new world in USA. Rachel finds her place and finds love.

    6. Even grading on a curve, this still isn't great. It's better than a lot of Sunfire novels (it even has a short but interesting subplot about union activity!), but that's fairly faint praise, isn't it? It'st the worst. That's really all you can say. 7. I originally read this series back in the 80s, checking them out from my elementary school library. Having re-read them as an adult I think they stand the test of time and are still relevant as far as historical fiction is concerned.
