    11. This book is for schoolchildren, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. It is a very personal book written by Jackie Robinson's only daughter, and she tells the story of her father (and mother) very well. The many pictures, including those of hand-written letters, enhance the book's well-written text.Even though I don't remember his first year in the major leagues (I just turned nine in 1947), I remember well Jackie Robinson playing for the Dodgers. I was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and listened to most of t [...]

    12. I believe the author’s main idea or message is that one should stand up for what one believes in. The reader comes to understand that people are very mean and racist. The main setting is at the historic Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York where Jackie Robinson plays his first major league game and almost his entire major league career. The book takes place from 1919, when Jackie was born to 1972, when he died. The point of view is from Jackie Robinson’s daughter, Sharon Robinson. Mrs. Robinso [...]

    19. Written by Jackie's daughter, this book tells the story of an American icon who helped break down the color barrier, in both baseball and the United States of America. This book does a good job blending facts from the times, such as what the Jim Crow laws were, and also facts about Jackie as a person and a baseball player. Jackie's story is so very amazing and I feel like this book has a place in the classroom. It would be great for students that like sports, and also for students interested in [...]

    20. I haven't read much about Jackie Robinson, and quite frankly, I wasn't very excited to do so because I'm not a baseball fan. However, I was deeply moved by this biography by Jackie's daughter, Sharon Robinson. Jackie Robinson was an incredible person. I especially loved the evidence of his love and dedication to his wife and children. He was a gifted athlete, for sure, but he was so much more than that: family man, man of faith, pioneer, hero, an accomplished businessman, and a spokesperson for [...]

    21. Written by Robinson’s only daughter, Sharon, the book is more to honor the memory of her amazing father, than an objective biography. Her insights are deeply personal and intimate. The descriptions of Jim Crow in the 1940’s and 1950’s are a shame to our country. This book would be a wonderful addition in a collection of Jackie Robinson books. A daughter’s memories might be magnified, rather than clear so other books might be a good balance. However, her voice is unique and the photos fea [...]

    22. Excellent biography written by the daughter of Jackie Robinson. This one's a keeper. I originally wanted to read something written by someone who knew him. I liked the book because it had pictures of Jackie Robinson, along with Civil Rights figures from that time. The story was short enough to gain enough knowledge of what Jackie went through plus all the honors he achieved. One thing I did like was the foundation for Young People, the Jackie Robinson Foundation which helps young people go to co [...]

    23. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this biography of Jackie Robinson! The book was less about the sport of baseball and more about the character of the man. The love of his daughter (author of the book) is clear as well as how respected Jackie Robinson was by his friends and family. There are plenty of related themes (see below).Lexile 1030Connecting ideas: Civil rights, Tuskegee airmen, Mighty Miss Malone, segregation, Satchel Paige,

    24. This is an exceptional photographic biography of the legendary baseball player, Jackie Robinson. And the best part is that it isn't pretentious; it's easy to read for everyone! Yay!I definitely recommend it to those interested in baseball, African American history or Jackie Robinson in general.
