    1. Devastation is a compilation of the first two books in the Virtual War series. I found most of the first book rather enjoyable, however the climax seem quite anticlimatic. The climax was, in fact, the virtual war. However, the "war" was quite undetailed, sped up, and shared no characteristics with a real war scene. The second story takes place partly on the Isles of Hiva, the area they were fighting for in the first book. The majority of this book is quite unrealistic, even in a dystopian society [...]

    2. I've abandoned this one. I'm not certain when it was written in realtion to Hunger Games, but I can't help compare it. And there is NO comparison.

    3. I like the topic and the multiple plots within the book, but the character's emotional and background stories are lacking

    4. *3.25/5This is the bindup for the first two books in the Virtual War Chronologs, Virtual War and the Clones, which I gave 3.5 and 3 out of 5 stars respectively.

VIRTUAL WORLDIn the not so distant future man-kind lives in boxes, everything is synthetic or virtual. Even war is a very elaboate, high-intensity video game. The "Bloodless War" that Corgan, Sharla and Brig have trained their whole lives for is near at hand. As the three part group who will wage the war for the last uncontaminated island left on earth it is all down to them and training becomes intense. Does this group of youngsters, two fourteen year olds and a ten year old, have what it takes [...]

    6. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!contians spoliers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!contians spoliers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)ok so i have to say this, this is definetly not what i thought i would be what so ever, in a good way.i licked the first haph but i think the second haph was better but what i think is really kind of metaphoricly "nocks you of your feet" is the endinge best way to describe it is a awsome roller coster rise with the highest incline and right after decline at t [...]

    7. The book Devastation in my opinion was a relatively good book about an apocalyptic future. I found that the plot was original (in my opinion as I have not read books like this) and the development of the characters was interesting and funny. However, this book lacked description in certain areas and sometimes there were plot twists that, while they were surprising, didn't really matter at all to the plot, which can be extremely annoying when you expect it to result in some gigantic change yet it [...]

    8. This is actually two books in one: Virtual War and The Clones, and is part of the Virtual War series. Earth has been destroyed and only a few pockets of civilization exist under domed cities that prevent the spread of contamination and disease. Of course, science and politics reign supreme. And to keep nations on an even footing, a virtual war has been planned that will decide the ownership of an uncontaminated island. The war is fought by highly trained, genetically engineered test tube childre [...]

    9. I'm struggling with rating this book because some parts of it I enjoyed and other parts I forced myself to read.It starts out interesting, what's going on? Curious to know. But after the "war" the book just doesn't feel right. Having finished the book I think the middle was just a way for the author to make the ending possible. It felt unlike the rest. I forced my way to the end, and I planned not to read the sequel but the last few pages piqued by curiosity again. So on to book 2. I can't say I [...]

    10. I enjoyed the first half more than the second which felt a bit less well-plotted and rambling at times. Interesting look at using genetically enhanced individuals to fight a virtual war for the remaining humans living in this distopian future. However, not much info is given on the conditions for anyone other than the main, coddled, character in this world. That would have been nice to go into a bit. Still, the cliffhanger at the end leaves me curious enough to want to pick up and read the next [...]

    11. The theme of "Devastation", by Gloria Skurzynski was "friends are the most important things one can have". It was an awesome book which I would recommend for anyone who likes young-adult dystopian novels. All of earth is plagued and inhabitable- apart from the domed cities and one remote island in the Pacific Ocean. Corgan, a fourteen-year old boy is about to fight in a virtual war, the winner of which gets to earn the island for their domed city. Then he meets Sharla, one of his teammates and s [...]

    12. Fantastic book. I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not at first, but it sucked me in and was a quick read. At times I loved the characters and at others I disliked them. There were times when Corgan was childish and annoyed me, but at the same time I understood why he acted the way he did. He was never really given much guidance and then suddenly found himself on his own. Of all the characters, Seabrig is perhaps my favorite because he's the most innocent and childlike of them all. I really cannot [...]

    13. Devistation by gloria skurzynski , is a story bout a lab born boy named corgan who was raised to perfection by a computer program named mentor

    15. I loved the book for how detailed and well plotted it was. I thaught that there should have been more action being took when Corgan was living on Nuka-Hiva. I also thaught that more questions were needed to be answered when Brigand had a big malitia of his. I loved how the story unfolded though and actually kept track of how all the characters progressed in exterior traits and personality. All in all, I would give this book a nine out of ten.

    16. I was given this book to read a long time ago and just now finished it. Even though it was an easy read as far as words (which is good for my lower level reading kids), I found the book to be confusing and drawn out. Some parts were dragged out that didn't need to be, and some parts that should have been explained better, weren't. I don't even think I want to read the rest of the series just because of this reason. Especially when I don't have as much time to read as I used to.

    17. I thought the book was really good, I really liked it. I did not really like the virtual war part it was not as good as I thought it would be, I thought it was going to have a little more action in it. I seem to be some what of a board game other than a war. Even though I didn't like that I still really want to know what happens in the other book with the Brig clones.

    18. This was an awesome book. When I got done Virtual War (there were two books in one, Virtual War and The Clones, but I didn't know that at first) I kept asking, where is she going with this? After the war, which happened to be the main thing, there was something else happening and I didn't understand it. This is one of those books that go by quick. Overall, it was pretty good.

    19. ( I don't know when I read this, but I borrowed it only to discover that I'd already read it once before. I'm not sure how I felt about it at the time, but I know I really like the concept but wasn't blown away by this book. I think the Hunger Game comparisons are unfair, but that seems to be what happens in this genre in particular. I might look over some reviews and add as I remember later c: )

    20. A decent young adult book with a fun plot that kept things moving quite lively. I really liked Mendor, the computer generated mother/father who changed to fit the circumstance. The downside is that it ends in such a way that it begs a sequel or series and I can't make up my mind if it's worth it or not.

    21. A little slow to start, but entertaining enough when you get into it. Ending a bit bizarre and unexpected, which isn't necessarily bad, but I will have to continue the series to find out what happens next

    22. i love this book! and i cant wait to read the new one. this is a book that takes you to another world. i love how the book has so much details and twists and turns. im so happy that this book was made. big thanks to Gloria Skurzynski! i love your work!

    23. It's a really interesting book. I am 13 and I loved it! A book my librarian said was better than this one is Beautiful Creatures by kami garcia and margaret stohl.

    24. Wow, this book was just like the Hunger Games. Well, it was similar. Different plot, and character types, but has the whole rebellion theme to it. <333

    25. Lots of technical and believability holes, but an exciting read nonetheless. If I don't get to finish the story with the next book, Afterwar, I don't think I'll mourn.

    26. This is the weirdest, most ridiculous book ever. The plot is so frantic and jumpy I could barely stand to finish it. It's like a wannabe Ender's Game.
