    1. This is the 2nd book in the series, i would have thought because it set in the time of the Vietnam war it would have been better being the 1st bookThis is a complete change from most Amish books i have read yet it wasn't in other ways it told of Ben Zook who goes to Vietnam & the other brothers who stay behind even how they got called up which i didn't think even happenThere was a bit about Colour which is mention as it was at the time plus about the Amish School & their exam all in all [...]

    2. An Amish tale set in during the Vietnam war, this book doesn’t really give off the strong Amish “flavor”, but I think that is what sets it apart from the mainstream Amish fiction. There is definitely a writing style to this book that can seem jarring until you get into the story and then if flows very nicely. Several major events happen right away in the story lending the reader to be sympathetic towards the characters. The emotions were a roller coaster ride and all the little subplots we [...]

    3. I'm so sad to see this story end. I adored many of the characters and due to this I would have been happy for it to go on much longer, especially if the future of my favourite couple was to be told. Once again another great read and a beautiful addition to book one. I'm looking forward to delve into the next book, I definitely recommend this to lovers of romance and Amish stories. Be prepared for many twists and turns that you wouldn't see coming:).

    4. In The Waiting, Suzanne Woods Fisher takes the sweet story expected in Amish fiction and adds a kick of realism—of racial tension, mental illness, scheming aunties, and Vietnam. I treasured my time with Jorie King and the whole Zook family, sharing their grief and laughter—what a lovely read.

    5. This is the second book in the series, and I thought the story would involve some of the characters from the first book, but it didn't. In fact, it's a historical piece, taking place during the Vietnam War yet in the same town of Stoney Ridge. The main character, Jorie, is in love with an Amish man who is serving in Vietnam as a conscientious objector. Hoping he'll mature while he's gone, she waits for his return. Unfortunately, she and his family get news of his death, and Jorie's world is turn [...]

    6. I loved this book! The beginning took me a minute to get into, but in the end I found (for the first time in a while) that I had fallen in love with the characters and the setting. The author's writing style is pretty good, and lots of little sub-plots keep you interested. However I did notice a few mistakes in the writing (like how she described the cougar having short ears and a bobbed tail, then in the next chapter describing it 'thrashing it's long tail' but nothing too devastating). All in a [...]

    7. A beautiful story of patience and long suffering. It is wonderful how God's plan comes through to fruition.I fell deeply in love with the characters. I was happy for them in the end but I cried with them too. It was such a beautifully written story that I would love to read again.

    8. I enjoy Suzanne Woods Fisher's style of writing. I enjoy her characters, and I love the way God is gently included throughout the whole story so that you're left with a warm hug after the last page This story, The Waiting, has many plots and lots of sub plots to keep you reading to find out how the story goes.

    9. Jorie King's life is on hold. She has been waiting for Ben Zook to return to Lancaster County. Waiting for him to settle down and join the church. Waiting to marry him.But when news arrives that Ben has been killed, Jorie is devastated. She finds unlikely comfort in the friendship of his brother Caleb. Friendship ripens into love, and two broken hearts plan for a life filled with the promise of a fresh beginning--until their worlds are turned upside down. With her realistic characters whose weakn [...]

    10. This is the 2nd book in the Lancaster County Secrets series. You don't have to read the first one in the series, this book could be considered a stand-alone. And as far as amish fiction goes, it was decent.Jorie King is quite content on her grandparent's Percheron farm. Her one love, Ben, went off to war to be a conscientious objector and she hasn't felt compelled to date anyone else. Her friend Maryanne lives near by with Ben's brother Caleb and she enjoys the children that inhabit the house th [...]

    11. Set during the mid sixties, when the county is immersed in the Vietnam war. Jorie King is waiting for Ben Zook to return for the war, he is serving as a conscientious objector and has been sent to Vietnam. She told him she wouldn't wait, but has been doing just that, even though she has been getting on with her life, taking the job as the schoolteacher and helping on her grandfathers farm, turning down all requests from suitors. Caleb Zook, Ben's older brother has been thrust into the position a [...]

    12. The Waiting is the second book in the Lancaster County Secrets series. I really enjoyed reading the first book, The Choice, so I read the second book shortly after. The Waiting is also the first book I have read entirely on an e-reader. I got a Kindle Paperwhite for Christmas and am trying it out to see how I like reading on it. So far, I’m only finding two main differences between an e-reader and a paper book. I can’t visually see where I am in the book or how many pages until the chapter e [...]

    13. THE WAITING by Suzanne Woods Fisher is a inspirational contemporary fiction set in 1965 Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It is the second in her Lancaster County Secrets and can be read as a stand alone. It is well written with details, love, romance, depth, twists and turns. It has devotion, faith, hope, forgiveness, Amish, struggles, friendship, death, grief, laughter and a plain faith. The characters are charming, believable, will grip your heart, and have a strong plain faith. They struggle with g [...]

    14. Unexpected. This word from the back cover description of the book is the aspect of the story that really drew me in and captured my interest. As other reviewers have pointed out, the plot of The Waiting is rather different from many other books set in an Amish community. The time period (during the Vietnam War) and the characters both intrigued me.What really bothered me when I first started reading the book was not the necessarily the story itself, but rather the back cover synopsis. It was alm [...]

    15. Jorie King isn't your typical Amish woman. Yet she seems to be waiting for Ben Zook to come home from Vietnam or at least that is what everyone thinks. Jorie believes that she's the keeper of her grandfather's song. Jorie's best friend is Mary Ann Zook. They believe the best of people even if they don't themselves. Ben Zook is away from his family serving in Vietnam yet he's never really been happy with his life. Caleb (Cal) Zook is hoping the members of Stoney Ridge don't vote for him to be a m [...]

    16. Jorie King has joined the Amish church and is more than ready to get married, all that's missing is her groomBen. He's "fighting" in Vietnam as a conscientious objector and has asked Jorie to wait for him to return. Jorie allows it and spends her time helping her grandparents raise their famous Percherons and teaching at the one-room schoolhouse. Teaching in such a way that her pupils are left in awe of God's majesty and splendor does not exactly earn Jorie any accolades within the community, ho [...]

    17. Sales of Amish fiction continue to soar. The apparent simplicity of the Amish lifestyle is a welcome escape from our uncertain times. A new author in this genre is Suzanne Woods Fisher. The Waiting is her second in a series called Lancaster County Secrets. The Waiting is actually a prequel to her first book, The Choice, which she wrote secretly on an antiquated computer. Her interest in the Anabaptist faith stems from her grandfather who was raised in the Old Order German Baptist Brethren Church [...]

    18. Suzanne Woods Fisher has written another brilliant novel, set in Lancaster County. Fisher weaves a poignant love story, transporting the reader back to the 60’s to experience the Amish lifestyle and culture while at the same time segregation, racial tension and the Vietnam War dominates the world headlines. The Waiting is the second book in the series called Lancaster County Secrets. Readers who loved The Choice will discover that this is not a sequel to The Choice but rather a prequel. There [...]

    19. The Waiting is the second book in the Lancaster County Secrets series by Suzanne Woods Fisher. This book tells the story of Jorie King who is waiting for Ben Zook to return home from Vietnam. She’s hoping that once Ben comes home, he’ll settle down, join the church and then they will get married. Although the Plain people do not believe in going to war, Ben was tricked into serving as a conscientious objector and has been away almost two years.During her long personal vigil of waiting for Be [...]

    20. I've enjoyed the Amish fiction that I've read this year some more than others. The Waiting by Suzanne Woods Fisher should probably go at the top of your Christian fiction read list for this year if it isn't already there. If you like Amish fiction or you've never read it, I suggest this story. The first thing that I liked about this book, it is set during Vietnam. When you think of the Amish, war is not something that immediately comes to mind. This book shows that nobody is immune to conflict. S [...]

    21. The Waiting by Suzanne Woods Fisher is the second book in the Lancaster County Secrets series, but you don't need to have read it to enjoy this novel. The Zook family has a long history in Amish community of Lancaster County. Eldest son Caleb took over the family farm after the death of their parents in a tragic accident. Next brother Benjamin is in Vietnam as a conscientious objector. Matthew, the third son, is eighteen and starting to wonder if there's more to the world, and youngest Ephraim i [...]

    22. Jorie King, is a young Amish woman who is in a holding patterns of sorts. She has been waiting on Ben Zook to come home from the Vietnam War, where he is serving as a concientious objector, waiting on him to come home, settle down and to marry her. However that all changes when several deaths happen very close together, first of all the Army declares Ben has been killed in the war and sends home his ashes, then Mary Ann Zook, Jorie's best friend dies, she is married to Ben's older brother Caleb. 24. I was so excited when I received this book to review. So excited in fact that I had to borrow the first book in the series from my Mother In Law! I will openly admit that I drug out the reading of this book. I didn't want it to end and found myself rationing my pages to make the book last as long as possible!Suzanne has a brilliant mind and through the emotions on her pages, she draws you right into the book along with the characters. I found myself completely understanding exactly where each ch [...]

    25. **This is the second book in the series, the first book being The Choice. If you have not read the first book, you may not want to continue reading**All Jorie King has ever wanted to do was marry Ben. However, her plans are put on hold when he is sent(actually signs up) for war. Now she patiently awaits the day he returns to Lancaster County.Ben's brother Caleb is dealing with a tragedy himself. His wife dies at a young age leaving Caleb(now the minister) to care for his daughter and his brother [...]

    26. My Thoughts On The Book: This book was yet another awesome Suzanne Woods Fisher story that will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride from page one until the final page. I cannot tell you how many times I found myself crying while reading the book. The characters are so real and so very charming and you instantly fall in love with each of them. The story had a number of twists and turns that kept you guessing right up until the end. I absolutely love the way Fisher handles the Amish faith [...]
