prey to this they benefit from a society that women do not, and so this book is a perspective of what it s like to be in an oppressed group who is attracted to and entering romantic relationships with those who are in the oppressor group.Roberson does make a point at the beginning to make this very clear, as well as express the distinction between who she means by men straight, cis, white men and that she is explicitly speaking from her own point of view, which is that of a straight, cis, white woman She recognizes her own privilege in the writing of this book, so anyone who complains that she s not addressing the issues of those who aren t straight cis white, well, she knows It took until the later parts of the book for me to really get into this, because my experiences in dating men are dissimilar from hers Yet, I could still connect to a lot of what she was talking about, and there s a lot in there that addresses my own hesitance at trying to date men again long story short I m traumatized because of the patriarchy and I don t want to date men again because the patriarchy There were than plenty of moments where I would laugh, or fist pump, or even feel borderline I don t know whether to laugh or cry at how true this is Overall, it s a quick and easy read, and deals with very real issues many heterosexual and bisexual women who date men face in a light and funny way The fact that Roberson is 26, 27 years old and openly admits that she doesn t have a full breadth of dating experience she s never been in a long term relationship, for example IS a flaw of the book, but this isn t meant to be a how to book This is meant to be her observations on dating as a woman in a 21st century patriarchal society presented in a comedic way Take it as simply that, and you won
