banter Like please give me all the heated banter forever and ever amen So with that said, my heart was so giddy over Kunal and Esha They are my children now and I love them and ship them endlessly. But the best part banter heat aside was the seriously incredible world building First of all, the Indian mythology was SO COOL and the foundation upon which the two warring nations are built I ve never read anything quite like it, but I love how the legends weren t just myths but had the power to disrupt life at its core On top of that, we have a super rich history that depicts the relationship between Kunal s lands and Esha s, and it only grows complex as the story plays on I love how nothing is black and white and complications arise from all ends What really made the story fun was that we go on a journey through both character s eyes traveling through towns and jungles and cities and palaces You won t be sitting still. The story starts as Kunal, a soldier, sees a mysterious girl lurking around his fort He approaches her, and she pretends that she s merely lost her way The two strike up a conversation harmless, by the looks of it, and he helps her return to where she claimed she wanted to be The next morning, Kunal wakes to find his uncle, the general, dead in his bed with the Viper an unknown assassin of sorts s weapon left in the room The next thing he knows, he s sent on a mission to find the Viper If he catches them, he ll be promoted and can make a real change for his country. It doesn t take him long to put the pieces together that the Viper, is in fact, the girl from the fort I really don t want to spoil than that, but be prepared for a whirlwind ride through emerald forests and colorful towns as the chase begins, and soon both Esha and Kunal are questioning everything they know and everyone they trust. My Blog Instagram Twitter flag 94 likesLike see review View all 5 comments Jul 06, 2018 Aila rated it it was amazing Shelves 2019 release, action packed, move on to another, I got the nagging feeling that leaving this book waiting and unfinished wasn t going to fly, so I went back to it and finished the last 400 pages in less than a day. This story is told by two POV s Esha, a rebel assassin and Kunal, a dutiful soldier Their paths cross one night and take their lives in a direction neither anticipated Along the backdrop of an Indian inspired fantasy world, we learn of betrayals, secrets, and an exciting game of cat and mouse as Kunal hunts Esha across the land for the death of his uncle They are two incredibly different people who bond over their past and realize their futures were not as they imagined them to be.First off, I LOVE enemies to lovers I m sorry, but I m not Kunal going on a wild goose chase after Esha and having her slip from his grasp over and over did me in I loved every second of it The slow burn romance and the fact that Kunal is a soldier falling for assassin just so swoon worthy Esha is cool and all, but KUNAL IS MY BOY Skilled, strong and a little in touch with his emotions Yes, yes and yes And, MY GOD, he loves to paint MY BOY IS A SOLDIER WHO LOVES TO PAINT Just kill me now because I am already dying in love with him GIVE ME BOOK TWO NOW.Anyhow, deep breaths, I am upset at how early I read this book because it doesn t come out until April of next year and that means I have to wait longer for till the end Esha is the famed, deadly and vicious assassin the Viper She operates in secret in alliance to the Crown Prince Harun of Dharka and the rebels They work against the tyrannous usurper King of Jasan, the opposition warring kingdom.Esha lost her family in a coup led by the usurper King, saved by Prince Harun and brought up by the Royal family of Dharka, Esha grew up training vicariously towards revenge and helping lead the rebellion.Esha s latest mission is to be a blow against the King by killing his beloved ruthless general Hotha Her mission brings her along the path of Kunal who is the nephew of the General and a formidable soldier at the Blood Fort where the General resides with his most fearsome men.A connection is formed between them bolstered by echoes of the past.Esha almost completes her mission before finding out that someone got there first and framed her for the murder Kunal and three other top soldiers are tasked with capturing the Viper and bringing her to justice with the incentive of the Captor being the next General of the Jansan army.Fate brings Esha and Kunal together yet and yet again, igniting an exciting cat and mouse game that is as hot as it is deadly. One thing I loved about this book is how it kept doing the opposite of what I expect and making it interesting I didn t see many things coming and I loved that as I m usually a good guesser Esha and Kunal are a hot pairing, the tension between them is smoking and they re a positive point of this book.Esha makes him see the world in a new light as he s been seeing it from rose coloured glasses, while he makes Esha realise she s a lot than she thinks.I love the lush world of Jansa and Dharka, Swati Teerdhala has woven an intriguing world that s sure to capture the heart of readers Her awesome writing certainly paints a vivid picture. There is magic in the book that s pretty unique as it s not exactly something you ll see coming. There are so many twists and turns that kept me on he sees the devastation caused by the royal coup Since hes always wanted to do the right thing this new information has him struggling to find the best way to help his people, even if that means going against eveything he was taught Esha on the other hand likes being the Viper, but also feels unworthy of love and happiness because of it I liked how she stuck to her original goal of getting revenge while realizing she still deserves happiness Her sticking to revenge gave her this morally grey personality that I really enjoy. We get focus on romance than family and friends While I enjoyed the tension between the two main characters it wasn t enough for me I did like Eshas interactions with Tana and her rebel group, but I still dont like the prince We dont really get to know the antagonists in this first book, but that might change in the sequel As for the plot, I didnt think it was that exciting The cat and mouse chase started to feel repetitive after a while and I didnt love the characters enough to make up for it I didnt feel the tension as much as I was hoping because I never felt like Kunal would actually get Esha back to the military stronghold I also felt like some things were too convenient For example, Kunal was getting lost in the woods, but two seconds later he is following tracks in the dark That just doesnt sounds believable The story wasnt super predictable, but nothing really surprised me.I liked how this world drew inspiration from ancient Indian history and Hindu mythology, but I would have loved of it I thought the gods and the creation of the land was interesting, but the only unique detail that really stood out to me though was how the trees had this sparkly glow in the dark powder on them I also liked the tiger at midnight lore and the shapeshifting magic, but I wish we got even of it There was just something about the writing that didnt click with me and because of that I didnt get to enjoy the story as much It took me a while to get into the story and get a good picture of the setting There was also a switch in perspectives that felt very abrupt Im still planning on picking up the sequel to see if the writing gets any better for me Its probably just a personal preference thing so I might click with it at a different time This book was received for an honest review flag 3 likesLike see review Jun 28, 2018 Cindy it about The story takes place in the lands of Jansa and Dharka, two lands bound together by magic that descends from twins Naria and Narian and requires a blood ritual from their bloodline, who are the only ones who have magical powers Only the females are allowed to rule and it is their blood that is necessary to ensure that the bond isn t broken However, the land in Jansa has been taken over by a man typical , known as the Pretender King after a massacre of the rightful royals in Jansa This results in problems such as droughts and diseases for both lands, and the only thing that can save them is if the blood ritual is performed The only descendant believed to be alive is Princess Reha, and no one knows where she is Kunal and Esha , one a soldier forced into the life of a soldier as a child by his uncle, after the death of his parents and the other is the feared Viper, the legendary assasin, that no one knows the identity of, much less that it is a girl Esha is on a mission to kill the general, who happens to be Kunal s uncle, as a part of the plan to take down the king by the rebel group of Dharka, known as the Crescent Blades Her path and Kunal s cross during this, a moment that changes everything. She finds the general murdered by someone already, who has framed her Who else knew she was supposed to be here Kunal is then sent on a mission to find the Viper which will make him Commander He puts two and two together, and so begins the cat and mouse game The romance in this was kind of insta lovey, but not overwhelming I love that they wanted each other as they were, accepting everything The characters were interesting and Kunal is the cutest He loves to paint i wish I could paint but has to hide it as he is a soldier No one is one dimensional and they are quite complex I didn t really like Esha that much because i felt that she was similar to a lot of other characters i have read before She is beautiful cant there be one normal looking character that everyone thinks is normal looking and like her because of her personality and everyone loved her she was totally badass, so she gets points The author s writing was quite good and engaging Overall it me and I just didn t get as much out of it I wanted to feel the stress of the action taking place, but it all felt very one dimensional and easy to just shrug and move on.Everything felt just very basic It was frustrating, when there s so much potential in the story I wish we could ve gotten a better look at life from both the main characters to have a better understanding of them and why their doing what their doing The way it was explained just didn t fell full enough to me.The romance also didn t feel very authentic to me It happened way to fast and I didn t really feel the connection between the characters, even after they go through a lot with each other Through everything, I just don t understand their connection Maybe I will in later books, but this wasn t for me.This book has
