    1. Elizabeth and Emily Rooth are identical twins. They survived their terrible childhood by leaning on each other. The girls spent their days .d sometimes nights locked in a bedroom by a mother who might disappear for days. And then 'mom' started bringing home male "friends" who would spend time with the girls. An accidental fire in their apartment led the girls to a family that loved them and adopted them. There are some horrors that can never be forgotten, no matter how hard you try.Bethy and Emil [...]

    2. Elizabeth and Emily are identical twins, most twins have a close relationship, but these two sisters really have no choice with a Mother like they have. She mistreats them in all kinds of ways. They learn to lean on each other for their needs. Then their mother begins to bring home 'men friends' which pose more dangers for the twins. There was an accidental fire within they're home which lead the children to be adopted by a loving family who fell in love with the twins. This of course doesn't mend [...]

    3. All of my reviews can be found on novelgossip4.5/5I read another book by Berry a few months back, Missing Parts and while I enjoyed that one, I liked this one even more. From the blurb alone I was hooked, I always like reading about the relationship between twins and combine that with holes in one of the characters memories and a dark past and I’m jumping in feet first. I will be saying very little about the plot with this one, but there were some killer twists that jarred me. Elizabeth wakes [...]

    4. All my reviews can be found at http:://thebookreviewcafeWhen I picked up Phantom Limb by Lucinda Berry I didn’t have any preconceived thoughts about this book as the author was a new one to me, it was the book description that enticed me to pick this one up, I’m always drawn to books that explore the human psyche and Phantom Limb explores the very subject with both empathy and understanding. I expected a psychological thriller with twists and turns and bucketfuls of suspense, but what I neve [...]

    5. Phantom Limb by Lucinda Berry is the story of Elizabeth and Emily Rooth. Emily and Elizabeth are twenty years old and identical twins. They had an extremely difficult childhood with an abusive (cruel, depraved) mother. The twins were lucky enough to be adopted when they are eight by Dalila and Bob Rooth (they are patient and loving people). After graduating from high school, the pair moved into their own apartment. Elizabeth is attending a local college on scholarship and works as a telemarketer [...]

    6. Ever read a book that keeps you up at night because not only was it an incredibly hard read but it made you think. Well Phantom Limb is such a book and I was up for a couple of hours after I finished it, thinking about what I just read and mentally trying to form my thought into a review. When I say this book wasn’t easy to read, it wasn’t. There are very graphic scenes of neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, cutting and suicide. I actually cringed during the scenes where Elizabeth was help [...]

    7. I am in awwww over this book, over this AMAZING AUTHOR!! I wish I could give more stars for Lucinda Berry this was my 1st book I have read from her & This book is INCREDIBLE, the writing was amazing, i absolutely soaked it up like a sponge! I began this book in the afternoon & didn't finish until bedtime! I couldn't stop talking about it! Thriller beyond words mystery, & so much more!I am going to remind the readers, THIS BOOK IS "FICTIONAL" regardless if the author has researched an [...]

    8. Phantom Limb is my first novel by Lucinda. Holy cow! How is this my first time reading this author? Where has she been all my life?! The story starts out with a set of twins, Emily and Elizabeth, living their everyday life. One of them has a very difficult time coping while the other continues to work and even has a man in her life. As the story progresses we learn about all the hard things they were forced to face as small children. A lot of it is very hard to read. Down right disturbing. All o [...]

    9. I didn't really know what to expect from this book, so I was totally unprepared for the heartbreaking tale that was thrown at me. In some ways, it was more disturbing to me than a psychological thriller full of detailed and horrendous murders.Elizabeth finds herself in hospital after the death of her twin sister. If she wants to leave and find a way to move on with her life, she will have to dig deep and face her past. And it's that past that's utterly uncomfortable to read about as it touches o [...]

    10. Review: PHANTOM LIMB by Lucinda BarryPHANTOM LIMB is a psychological suspense novel focusing on a set of emotionally intertwined twins. Elizabeth and Emily had a totally horrendous early childhood, offspring of a mother absent emotionally and physically, both neglectful and abusive. Although the author doesn't detail specifics, enough is revealed to make it clear that the twins suffered terribly. By age seven, when rescue finally occurred, the damage was permanent. As adults, both twins still su [...]

    11. Elizabeth’s story is written so eloquently it was hard to imagine sometimes that Phantom Limb is in fact a work of fiction. The story was mesmerising and the true beauty of this novel most definitely lies in the ability of Ms. Berry to write a story that felt like I was reading a true story. A story about self-discovery and tragedy with a protagonist who feels like she’s a normal and ordinary person until we delve deeper into her past and the author peels away the layers of her nondescript l [...]

    12. Read all my reviews at: brainfartsandbooks.wordpressEmily and Elizabeth are twins born to an abusive mother who leaves them home alone without food and water, without a bathroom, and without any supervision of any kind until they accidentally burn their apartment down. They are then adopted by a loving couple, finish high school, and move into their own apartment. Elizabeth, being the stable one in college and with a job, and Emily, the introverted twin who refuses to leave their apartment and h [...]

    13. I was gripped by Phantom Limb within the first chapter and this book did not disappoint. It was fast, gripping and shocking. Emily and Elizabeth are twins and they grew up with a horrible mother who abused them, neglected them and allowed strange men to come in and do things to them. This changed at age 8 when there was an accidental fire and the twins got adopted by the Rooths'. Many years later Emily and Elizabeth are living together but Emily is struggling with depression and self harm. One e [...]

    14. Identical twins Emily and Elizabeth have been inseparable since birth, and that bond was further cemented by the horrific conditions in which they were raised. Now young adults, Emily is an emotional wreck while Elizabeth does her best to hold it all together. But then she loses Emily, and she just can't cope anymore This book was absolutely stunning in its depth. I felt like I'd fallen down a rabbit hole as I read of Elizabeth's journey through the loss of her sister and her road to recovery in [...]

    15. My Review: 5/5My minor in college was psychology. Even though it's been almost 20 years since I've graduated (wow, I'm old!), I still love studying abnormal psychology and various disorders that affect the brain. When I was approached to receive a copy of this book I knew I had to read it. This book is phenomenal! I read it in a day; I couldn't put it down. It is gripping, and wonderfully written. I was worn apart along with Elizabeth at the loss of her twin sister, the only person who was with [...]

    16. Emily and Elizabeth Rooth have deep psychological scars due the horrific abuse they suffered as very young children. What could have been a tragedy becomes a rescue, allowing the girls to escape their hellish existence in their mother’s home and be adopted by a loving couple. Some wounds never fully heal, however, and the girls are unable to let themselves trust their new parents—or anyone else—with their secrets and fears, depending only on each other and dealing with their emotional pain [...]

    17. What a great book. Twin sisters abused by their mother for 7 years until they were taken away from her and adopted by loving parents. But then years later Elizabeth wakes in a hospital, strapped to her bed and unable to move or speak. She only remembers Emily dead. Can't believe the end of the book, shocking.

    18. Identical twins, Emily and Elizabeth, grew up with adoptive family after suffering serious abuse as children. Now, as adults, Elizabeth finds herself constantly caring for her twin. Emily participates in self-harm and Elizabeth finds Emily on the floor of their bathroom, dead. Waking up strapped down, unable to move or speak, Elizabeth finds herself in a hospital where everyone is saying Emily died two years prior. As Elizabeth delves deeper into her past to uncover what happened to Emily, she i [...]

    19. Just finished the book and am left with a big HUH? Not a psychological "thriller", there are just not many thrills here. By chapter 3 it is pretty obvious where the author is going with this, but luckily you do not have to read all the way to the end to get there. I was along for a ride that turned out to be very straight, even and slow. First person perspective of a mentally ill protagonist probably should have had more twists and turns than what came across. (view spoiler)[The big reveal in th [...]

    20. Identical twins, Emily and Elizabeth endure the wrath of their abusive mother who disappears, leaving them locked in a room with no food or water for days at a time. After an accidental fire that essentially saves their lives, they are taken in by a family determined to love them. Unfortunately, no amount of love and care can make them forget their childhood horrors and they continue to depend solely on each other to get through their day to day existence. Then Elizabeth finds Emily in the bathr [...]

    21. Not A Thriller Per Se, But Does Have A Big "Gasp Out Loud" Moment As Well As A Twisted EndingThis book is really a psychological drama involving the treatment of a woman diagnosed with dissociative personality disorder, with large chunks of narrative devoted to discussing the dysfunctional and abusive early childhood she shared with her twin sister. It is not a thriller in that the story does not generate any sustained level or excitement or anxiety about what is going to happen next, though it [...]

    22. Phantom Limb by Lucinda Berry was a dark and twisted thriller. Berry's background in childhood psychiatry and trauma really shines through in this book and it was so interesting to read this story with that kind of insight and expertise backing it up. Twins, Elizabeth and Emily, have been through a life of trauma together. A childhood where their mother locked them in a room with a bucket, starved them, and brought 'special friends' to see the girls. Their freedom all thanks to an accidental fir [...]

    23. Review - 4/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟I'm not really sure where to start with this one. I want to say that I did enjoy it! It is an amazing plot line too but it lacked depth! I started reading it and enjoyed it straight away. It gripped me within the first chapter but as I read on I felt it was lacking depth to the story. I found it hard to connect with the main characters because I felt there was no backstory within the chapters. What was there was very brief and not detailed enough for what the storyli [...]

    24. "ke an amputee I was left with the excruciating phantom pain of being tortured by my lost limb." How did Elizabeth and Emily survive their early years? Years of suffering with an abusive mother; bringing countless men to her little girls in order for them to "play special games". They had each other. Except, Emily's self-pity was suffocating. Elizabeth was unable to have a normal life, even if she wanted to. Adopted by their foster parents at seven. They understand that the girls had wounds that [...]

    25. 3.5 STARSPsychological? Yes. Thriller? Not really. Not to say it isn't a good book, but I wouldn't put it in the thriller category. It's a pretty brutal look at what happens to a person when they suffer extreme trauma at an early age (parental neglect, starvation, sexual abuse). Elizabeth is in a psychiatric facility after she tries to kill herself after her twin sister's death, and she has to come to grips with her history regain her memory of what happened to her sister. To give too many detai [...]

    26. I liked this book, but it enfolded into more of a treatise on the mental health system and how a woman, who was a twin, but was actually taking on the identity of the other due to guilt, comes to full realization of her "assumed" identity. All good, but I was expecting more of a psychological thriller rather than a back and forth of the protagonist's struggle within the modern mental health system confronting others she perceives as more disturbed as herself. I figured out the twist way early, b [...]

    27. Oh my word, what twisted beauty did I just read!? If you haven’t figured already, I loved this book! The synopsis grabbed me as soon as I read it and I was glued to the mystery between the pages. From the very first pages, this story is intense and that intensity remains until the very last page! After one of the most horrific starts in life, twins, Elizabeth and Emily have one of the closest bonds siblings can have – one cannot exist without the other… until Elizabeth is forced to.Set main [...]
