        Se n Mac Math na was born in Tr L , Co Chiarra Tralee, Co Kerry in 1936 He attended St Brendan s, Cill Airne Killarney and later Col iste na hOllscoile, Corcaigh University College Cork He spent many years as a post primary teacher Short stories of Mac Math na s were published regularly in English in The Irish Times, The Irish Press, and in Irish in Comhar His collection of short stories Ding Dublin An Comhlacht Oideachais, 1983 established Mac Math na as a recognised short story writer The Abbey Theatre produced Gada G ar na Geamho che The Winter Thief in 1992, four nights in English and two in Irish per week with the same cast, an innovative undertaking The Arts Council nominated The Atheist, a translation by the author of his first book Ding agus Sc alta Eile, Wolfhound, 1987 , for the European Literary Prize 1999 saw the publication of his second collection of short stories in Irish, Banana, which and won the Gradam U Sh illeabh in Irish Book of the Year 1999 An Taibhdhearc Theatre in Galway produced his play Hulla Hul in 1999.
