    1. Hard decision made during a time of war shapes the rest of Rose’s life. Her parents want her to marry a man she does not necessarily love. The man she does love goes to war so she marries the man of her parent’s preference. Later in life she finds letters from the man she loved and now all these years later goes in search of the man who went to war. Age old story of the one you never forget. I would like to thank the publisher and Net Galley for the chance to read this ARC.

    2. Three stars: A book that starts out interesting, but the author tries too hard to tug at your heart strings, and the end is flat and abrupt. Rose is in the middle of sprucing up her old home. During the renovations, she found buried beneath her house, a bundle of three unopened letters, sent decades ago from her long lost love in Prague. All these years, the truth was right there. Now at sixty seven, Rose is ready to go back and find out the truth. She has long buried the past and its dark secre [...]

    3. This was not the book I was expecting it to be. I thought of a box full of letters, searching for past secrets with twists and turns. What I read was a beautiful, intricate story of love, loss, confusion, pain and longing. The story follows the difficult love of Rose and Krystof starting one night at a dance and ending many many years later. Rose marries Will who quite frankly is a disgusting, oppressive, scary and down right evil excuse for a man. She marries him during a period of her life whe [...]

    4. I would like to thank NetGalley for the wonderful novel The Secret Letters by Catherine Law. I really enjoyed reading this heartfelt story of an older woman with her adult daughters, reflecting and revisiting her life: as a young woman in England during WWII, her love for a Czechoslovakian soldier, and her complicated relationship with an abusive British fiance. This story takes her though farming for the war efforts, the unfortunate fate of her parents, as well as to Communist Prague, with many [...]

    5. Rose Pepper is determined to do her bit for King and Country, so she trains to be a Land Girl in WW11 and is sent to a farm far away from her parents and controlling fiancé Will Bowman. He has always been against her going out to work: he was unfit to fight and worked in the banking industry and longed for their marriage and a stay-at-home wife. It was there on Pengared Farm that Rose meets the love of her life Krystof Novotny, a Czechoslovakian, fighting with the US troops stationed near to th [...]

    6. I just knew I was going to love this book as soon as I saw the cover and the blurb. It took me a little while to get into it but it was definitely worth it. The author takes us on a journey to wartime Cornwall and the attention to detail is incredible - the reader can easily imagine being a Land girl and enduring the horrors of war. Then, cleverly intertwined is Ruth's sojourn in Communist Prague, again written in meticulous detail to evoke the period. Finally, we are brought into the present as [...]

    7. It was quite by chance I came across the The Secret Letters by Catherine Law and I think it was both the cover and title that made me want to read this book. Then having read the blurb I knew this was a book I would enjoy as I love historical fiction. This chance discovery proved to be well worth it as I loved this story from start to finish and Catherine Law is definitely an author whom I know I want to read more from in the future. If you were to read the blurb one would think the sole focus o [...]

    8. "In her hands were his letters to her: unread, unknown, unearthed forty six years after she had last seen his face."The prologue of "The Secret Letters" immediately drew me in. I had already been very tempted by the blurb - any story combining undiscovered letters that have been hidden, unopened for nearly 50 years and a setting of the Second World War suggests a great historical drama of romance, tragedy and survival. And Law does not disappoint. The prologue sets up lots of questions as we are [...]

    9. So far so good! The reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is because I haven't finished the book yet, but I wanted to write a review so others could put it on their must read list! The Secret Letters is a fantastic story following the lives of Rose and Krystof , and the heartbreaking decisions they are forced to make, All characters in this book are nicely fleshed out, making you love and loathe them from the start (Will, I"m talking to you). Rose -- what a a great character. I love her and your heart [...]

    10. ''A heart-breaking tale of love and loss''- heart-breaking indeed.Elderly Rose Pepper finds a few unopened letters by her long lost love hidden between the floorboards. She is forced to relive her past and confront the secrets she has kept from her two adult daughters. What we know from the start is that she had lived in Prague straight after the war but had to leave her beloved Krystof behind once communist forces began to take control. We also know that her two daughters have different fathers [...]

    11. The Secret Letters by Catherine Law is story about duty, truth and true love set in 1992 and the latter years of World War Two in Cornwall and Prague. Rose is happily engaged to a very upright bank clerk, Will Bowman, whom her parents adore. She joins the War effort as a land girl and goes off to a isolated farm in Cornwall where she meets Ted and Betony the farmers and Megan an incredibly confident outspoken land-girl. Will is a perfect cad, you know the type, looks and acts respectable but dee [...]

    12. The secret lettersI Am a lover of moving romantic stories. I love romance stories set in the war time. There is something beautiful and atmospheric about them. Thank fully this book didn't let me down and was beautiful. This book is set over two time zones. 1992 where Rose is in her 60s all her children have grown up. One day while cleaning Rose refinds a box that she has shut away and over the years while busy with the children has gone from the forefront of her mind. The box contains love lett [...]

    13. In 1992 Rose is in her sixties with grown up children when she discovers a bundle of letters hidden under the floor boards that have been there since the late 1940s, they are letters from Krystof the love of her life after she left him in Prague, the man that she has never forgotten. The story goes back to Cornwall in the war years when Rose becomes a land girl in WWII - part of the reason she became a land girl was to escape her fiancé Will - her parents thoroughly approve of him and are keen f [...]

    14. Very atmospheric romance between Rose and Krystof- and you'll learn a little about post war Prague. This is a tale of lost love refound with an ending that might not be as satisfying as one wants but which is realistic. This is well written and highly readable= thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I'd not read Law before but am going to look for her again. An almost old fashioned read good for a relaxing afternoon.

    15. A lovely story set mainly in England mostly during the second war. Catherine Law creates a story about family and secrets, of making do in times of trouble and of lost love. Well written and great descriptions.
