    1. 3.5 starsIt was simply eight words. 'Please come. I beg of you. Please come.' Catherine Westin had known Madeline St. Aubyn from her days at the Browning School For Girls. At the time, each of them were estranged from their families but their circumstances were different. Then a horrific accident occurred and Madeline saved Catherine's life. For this reason alone, she would travel the long distance to attend to her old friend. The year was 1828. A wicked person was lurking the streets of London [...]

    2. 5 StarsThis 5 Star rating isn't because the fine author of this book personally mailed me an advanced autographed copy or because of the fact that she has taken the time in her busy schedule to correspond with me in emails. Oh no indeed. This rare 5 Star rating from me is because Eve Silver's on her way to becoming "The Queen of Goth" in Historical Romances. She has a way of making the dark underlying love of not your average everyday Lord and Lady shine from page to page. She makes you feel the [...]

    3. 4.5 starsExcellent mix of romance and dark, gothic mystery; even though I felt sure I had guessed the answer to the mystery puzzle, the answer managed to take me by surprise in the end. Plus, I loved the marriage proposal:)Great book with fast plot, witty dialogues, clever strong heroes and interesting secondary characters. Not much in the steam department, but I enjoyed the sexual tension that too many modern books seem to be missing, and their one and only love scene. Highly recommended to fan [...]

    4. For about the first quarter to half of this book, I was puzzled about the book being deemed a "historical romance". It seemed more along the lines of a dark mystery with a possible romance side plot. This was my first book by Eve Silver and boy, does she know how to ramp up the spooky factor using atmosphere. There are several mysteries going on throughout this book:1. The heroine, Catherine, has a horrible secret and harbors a deep pain. What is her secret?2. Catherine's friend, Madeline's, hea [...]

    5. I was in the mood for Gothic, and picked this because it was supposedly steamy (which I was also in the mood for). However, it was disappointing, because it was mostly really gross with detailed descriptions of nasty crimes. More bloody than steamy, I'd say. Took me a long time to read it, because I could only take so much at once, and was generally reluctant to return to it. Hero and heroine are also chockablock with personal issues and scars (literal and figurative) from their respective terri [...]

    6. After having read and loved Eve Silver's Otherkin series, I decided to purchase Seduced by a Stranger. This book is not a paranormal romance but a very dark and twisty gothic. The grim tone is set at the very beginning of the book with the heroine, Catherine Weston, buried alive and slowly being crushed to death until rescued by another child, Madeline St. Aubyn, who also attends the same school. Then in another scene the reader is exposed to a budding serial killer. A few readers may find the v [...]

    7. The fifth book in the Dark Gothic series by Eve Silver. Set in England in 1812, this novel has a dark, gothic feel to it. One of the better books I've read by Eve Silver.

    8. 3.75/5 rounded up.This is a wonderfully dark Gothic romance. One plot twist I saw from the very beginning, but the other I was totally surprised by. Well done Ms, Silver! This isn't a four star read outright because I wanted a little more chemistry between Catherine and Gabriel and some of the plot elements were way over the top for my taste. (Though they are in keeping with Gothic literary traditions.)Be warned this is not your typical historical romance; women are murdered on page and there ar [...]

    9. Seduced by a Stranger by Eve Silver Historical Romance-Gothic- Sept 1st, 2009 4 stars Eve Silver has written has out done herself with her latest gothic Seduced by a Stranger. This story kept me guessing until almost the very end! Seduced by a Stranger is without a doubt, her most terrifying and thrilling gothic to date. I was intensely drawn to the shadowy, tortured hero and the courageous heroine. This novel is guaranteed to scare and shock you with deliciously twisted turns and a diabolical m [...]

    10. Eve Silver writes dark books. This is no exception. I don't expect to laugh when I read one of Eve's books, but I do expect to be enthralled with the dark, damaged characters searching for redemption and love (even if they don't know it yet) and Eve's incredible talent for writing a gothic atmosphere so palpable you can almost see the fog rolling in or feel the edge of the sharp blade the villain wields. The heroine Catherine is summoned to help her friend Madeline who has fallen very ill. Along [...]

    11. Uh. I have never been so mentally exhausted from experiencing every character's EVERY woe and past trauma WHEW. Glad that's over. I'd rather feel compassion for characters who aren't puppeteered for that response from the author. Don't tell me how/what to feel; I can do that on my own accord, thank you. I need no crowd of literary jeers/cheers to prompt mine.It made me think that she couldn't describe anything without actually pointing out the obvious or saying a word she's trying to describe.I' [...]

    12. If you haven't read an Eve Silver Gothic historical, I would urge you to pick one up. She is simply an amazing story-teller. I have not read any thing that compares to the eerie tone that she sets in each of her books. She is one gifted author in the art of making your eyes widen, your blood curdle, your skin crawl, your heart to beat in anticipation, as each scene unfolds, engaging you further and further into the disturbing plot and the lives of each of the characters.Without a doubt, Seduced [...]

    13. I am not sure why, but I have decided to read Eve Silver's Dark Gothic series backwards, starting with number five. I've had some of them on my TBR pile for nearly ten years. Time to jump in!I love Gothic romances, this one being set in Regency England. Ooo, and it was dark. Gruesome even, with a sick and twisted killer on the loose. Catherine, the heroine, is summoned to Cairncroft Abbey to care for her ailing childhood friend, Madeline. Poor Catherine brought some very heavy emotional baggage [...]

    14. I have always loved those atmospheric, shivery, gothic romances – the spooky houses, the moody hero, the uncertainty of who is friend and who is foe. The only thing I found lacking was spice. Several years ago, I discovered author Eve Silver, who wrote a small (unfortunately) series of five gothics, which I adored. Her books were definitely sexy, and just what I was looking for. Eve soon moved on to be very successful in other genres, but I have never given up hope that she may have another go [...]

    15. Silver knows how to write moody, claustrophobic settings, but her prose is a bit of an overachiever. The descriptions of surroundings and the character's inner monologues take too much space and I began to skip. Some times there will be a whole page of prose in the middle of a conversation. There is also an over-abundance of PoV and I prefer my gothics from just one PoV.As for the content, it's quite dark. Everyone in the novel is dark, traumatized, (quite gory,) and eventually a bit too much. I [...]

    16. I sometimes have trouble following ES's writing, but that doesn't take away from her magical ability to paint a dark picture. Her heroes and heroines are intense, flawed and in he end likable. Catherine's story was particularly sad - yet she is able to trust Gabriel and inevitably love him. Gabriel's store is gruesome and the betrayal of his family is sad and horrible. To give any details at all would be spoiling the story, so I will just say - definitely worth the read!!!!

    17. Four and a half starsDark and brooding, mysterious happenings, reserved but ultimately scrappy heroine determined to get to the bottom of the afore-mentioned happenings. Fairly predictable ending. All in all, very faithful to the genre, so if you are a fan of gothic literature, this will be a good book for you.

    18. Ordinarily, I enjoy Eve Silver's work, but not this one. Other than a whole lot of greasy sex, something was not right. There was no emotional development, and it was obvious who was the bad guy from the very beginning. Too many over dramatic hints.

    19. Madness and Murder Msn Silver had me intriqued from the opening paragraphs. I did not unravel the plot until she revealed it herself. This was unusual for me because I can usually solve a mystery quite early on the story. Her characters are complex with many facets.

    20. I enjoy Eve Silver's writing. Her ideas are always very entertaining and I found this one just as pleasing as the last.

    21. The story itself was suitably creepy, but I'm not sure why this is marketed as a romance, as the romance is not the main focus of the story. The romance in the story is also more of a instalust with some affectionate feelings tacked on, rather than a true romance that slowly builds over time. It reads more like the characters are physically attracted to each other, and then try to find personality traits in each other that will account for this attraction instead of just good chemistry. For comp [...]

    22. This book was recommended to me by a great friend and I can now say that I will be trusting her judgement in all things, for the rest of time. This book blew my mind and has introduced me to the brave new world of the gothic romance genre. The book features some of my favourite things - a gothic setting, Jane Eyre-esque banter between characters and a whole load of family secrets involving suspicious deaths. It’s a book of two halves, the first half focusing on the budding romance and relationshi [...]

    23. I loved the first three books in this series but I feel that the fourth and fifth (this one) were not as good. My criticisms are much the same as those for the last book. While I usually enjoy multiple viewpoints, they aren't suitable for every book. I feel that the switch to multiple viewpoints in these books was a bad idea. The mystery and gothic feel is missing with our window into every0ne's thoughts. I did not particularly like Gabriel (unlike the roguish but attractive 'heroes' from the fi [...]

    24. This book is more like a murder mystery (or maybe an attempt at a modern horrid novel?? Plenty of references to the novel Frankenstein) than a romance novel. Not much romance and not a good murder mystery.I was frustrated with the evasions and lack of information in the first half of the book as it seemed that everyone introduced felt like "red herrings" including the cousin and the man who forced the maid.Once the evil twin was introduced (past halfway throught he book) it was obvious he did it [...]

    25. I can not stop thinking about this book! Heaven help me! This is one of the best books I have read in forever. I recently started reading on my stationary bike and placing my Kindle on the top and I swear I have lost so much weight because of Eve Silver! I would say, only 30 minutes and then 2 hours laterNow, I have read all of the Dark Gothic Series and each one if worth a read (they are all so wonderful) but this one stopped me in my tracks! It haunted me when I couldn't read it and when I did [...]

    26. Catherine Weston has been asked by her childhood friend Madeline St Aubyn to visit her at Cairncroft Abbey, to keep her company while she is not well. On arrival she meets Madeline’s cousin Gabriel St Aubyn – Madeline does not like her cousin at all and tells Catherine not to trust him but Catherine’s gets other vibes from Gabriel and before she knows it she is drawn to him. When he kisses her she realizes that she has never felt like this before.Gabriel has had a haunted life, he trusts n [...]

    27. A darker, different romance. Catherine and Gabriel are wounded souls, who had to make difficult choices in order to survive. I liked them a great deal. The charactures were great, the story interesting, the mood dark. However , it took too long to get to the romance and when they finally get together the story is over. The conclusion was very abrupt. Seemed the ending was rushed while the beginging was too drawn out. Too much time in the killer's disturbing mind. Reminded me of Anne Stuart.

    28. Great mysteryLoved this book. Outstanding mystery with an ending I didn't see coming. I had read another one of Ms Silver's book before I read this one and really enjoyed her writing. This story involves Caroline and her friend from school Madeline and Madeline's cousin Gabriel. Throughout the story we're led down one corridor of clues only to be turned down another before we reach the end. I certainly recommend this to mystery lovers with a touch of romance
