        PAMELA JOHNSON was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and migrated to Berkeley, California, in 1966 A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UC Berkeley in anthropology, she went on to earn master s degrees in education at Mills College and in English at Holy Names University, both schools in Oakland A former teacher and university professor, she is actively involved in social and environmental issues and views her writing as an extension of her politics She is married and currently divides her time between a ranch in the Sierra foothills of California and Ocho Rios, Jamaica In addition to her pursuits as an author, she is Managing Director of Stone Harbour Press.

    1. 'A Nation of Mystics' is a great historical fiction novel that takes the reader on a vivid journey back in time to Berkeley and the Haight-Ashbury district during the Summer of Love. I was impressed with the writing style of Pamela Johnson, she is very expressive and detailed and really brings the period of time to life with it’s atmosphere of revolution and freedom, alternative spirituality, and altered states of consciousness.     2. What Pamela Johnson has written grabbed my attention so that I could not put it down. If you were there at that time, there will be many similarities to people you may know, think you may know and the same for situations. The geography from the Haight to Southern California is well covered in the life and times of fill in the blanks.I would recommend this book to all my friends.


    3. Set in the drug haze of the sixties the reader is lead through the lives of several people, mostly all dropped out of university. Their drug use leads them to be dealers, are high most of the time and are convinced that the world would be full of love if everyone used acid. They were sometimes lucky and escaped where they were living, minutes before being raided.
