    1. This novel set in the Civil War was a miss for me. I found parts of the story line to be unrealistic. The dialogue wasn't engaging. What I did like about the novel was the cover, the author's forward and the character Tommy.

    2. A THOUSAND SHALL FALL was a heartbreaking tale of a woman trying to keep her family protected and the Union officer who, in turn, attempts to keep her safe. There were moments of fighting and suffering during this war, spies, broken and false friendships as well as true friendships, inspirational moments, and a sweet romance and love that developed between these two characters. An enjoyable read for those who enjoy inspirational romance. What I enjoyed most from this story were the characters. I [...]

    4. The first in the Shenandoah Valley Saga, A Thousand Shall Fall is an exciting and unpredictable narrative of the Civil War and those who lived and fought in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. Descriptive and picturesque, the Shenandoah area comes to life through Ms. Boeshaar's detailed novel. Well researched and documented, the war and the lives of those who lived during that difficult time in our country's history come to life.Characters are very well depicted and developed throughout the book, brin [...]

    5. Andrea Boeshaar has gifted us with a wonderful read, a page-turner for sure, and one that will linger with you for a long time. The reality of the Civil War in the Southern States was not pretty, and we picture all of the destruction from the eyes of young Carrie Ann Bell, and Colonel Peyton Collier, a Virginian in the Northern Army.We meet Aunt Ruth and immediately fall in love with her and how she cares for people. With a few chuckles as she “puts her foot in her mouth”, when she makes a l [...]

    6. Sassy, independent, Carrie Ann Bell, finds herself in a pickle when she's captured by Union soldiers and arrested for impersonating an officer. It had all started off soo innocently enough, her younger sister had run off and Carrie thought it was her duty to sneak behind enemy lines to go find her. The Yanks have no idea what to do with this smart talking, headstrong woman, but one soldier, Colonel Collier, has his eye on her. Carrie finds herself caught up in the midst of the war and she doesn' [...]

    7. I almost passed on this novel as I am not a huge fan of historical fiction. This would've been a mistake. A THOUSAND SHALL FALL did start kind of slow - with Carrie Ann meeting up with an old childhood friend, but nothing clicked for me. I kept reading about then there was a click, about 50 or so pages in that grabbed my interest and it was held through-out the remainder of the book. I enjoyed getting to know Carrie Ann and Peyton, and even Joshua. Set during the Civil War and not after as most [...]

    8. I was a little up and down with this read! I enjoyed the beginning and then Colonel Collier and Carrie's conversations bogged me down. There were pieces in between that would lift me back up; such as meeting Tabitha and Aunt Ruth. These two women were the respite that I wanted more of. They were fun, quick witted and interesting and most of all they were a nice break from the romance that took over too many scenes for me. I prefer historical with a very light hint of romance. In all it was a nic [...]

    9. Part 1: First Impression (part way through book) Lovely read! This is the first of Andrea's books I've read and I REALLY enjoy it! Anyone who follows my reading and reviews knows I enjoy a good Civil War read! :) And that's exactly what I've found A Thousand Shall Fall to be! I immediately liked Carrie as a heroine and felt for her as she tries to make things right in her family. I also enjoy the way Andrea writes. She throws you right into Carrie's life and fills you in on her past along the wa [...]

    10. I couldn't put this book down, page after page I was taken back in time to the Civil War era. The research that went into this book was what made this book for me. I found myself asking my husband now what side was that General on? Not to worry though the answers to my questions were in the next few paragraphs. Great descriptions put me right into the action, although some may be gruesome to think about. The author had me remembering that this war was not just fought in open fields but went righ [...]

    11. This book was a very pleasant read but nothing overly exciting or different. I'd still say give it a chance and enjoy it :)

    13. The Civil War has long been a topic that fascinates me, especially the lives of the civilians who literally lived on the battlefield of the bloody conflict. For that reason, I was eager to read a story where characters are in that exact situation, that then adds a dash of mystery and a little romance, delivering a powerful story of family and relationships that sticks with the reader.Sometimes I forget that people who lived in the past not only experienced the broader historical context but also [...]

    14. A Thousand Shall Fall: A Civil War Novel***** (Shenandoah Valley Saga) by Andrea BoeshaarAutumn 1884Nineteen-year old Carrie Ann Bell has not had an easy life and now her youngest sister has runaway with a peddler. How can she find her before she gets too far away? She runs into her long-time friend, Joshua Blevens, now a Major in the Confederate Army, and asks him to help her. But he is a solider now and can'te is on her own. Disguised as a Yankee soldier, she searches along Virginia's Shenando [...]

    15. A Thousand Shall Fall begins with an author's note promising that a lot of research went into this historical fiction series. And it shows! Throughout this first installment you'll find plenty of tidbits about the American Civil War (from pertinent facts mentioned in dialogue to telegrams and article snippets between some chapters). I confess there were times facts and explanations felt a bit forced or crammed in to the narrative and dialogue. I think this partly led to some conversations coming [...]

    16. What a fabulously moving story! This will take you into the lives of those who suffered and lived in the harsh times of the civil war. Even through the mud and exploding shells romance can bloom. Carrie Ann just wants to find her sister and will do anything to get her back to safety. Peyton just wants to survive, and win, the war. Thrown into each other’s lives they certainly have sparks! The author has depicted the realities of war and hard life during those times so well I felt I was in the [...]

    17. If you enjoy historical fiction, Andrea Boeshaar has done a fantastic job with "A Thousand Shall Fall." This book is definitely a page-turner about the Southern States, who face the Civil War. We see the story through the lens of Ann and Colonel Peyton. What makes this story, so unique and unusual is the authors ability to take research and weave it into this story. I love how she used this realistic information and applied to a story that is beautifully told, but in a way that makes the reader [...]

    18. A Thousand Shall Fall is a compelling tale! Andrea Boeshaar writes with historical accuracy and a Christian perspective as she shares the story of a young, spirited woman who finds herself in the hands of the enemy.I love Civil War era novels and this one certainly captured my attention! The characterization is excellent, and I really enjoyed the relationships that develop as the story unfolds. Boeshaar’s extensive research and attention to detail bring life to the narrative, as she weaves a l [...]

    19. Overall, 'A Thousand Shall Fall' is not my favorite historical romance, but I suppose nears the top in Civil War Era novels. I want to read more historical fiction books in this era after reading this one! Still, Boeshaar's book has merit. Although the pace was sluggish, the story was interesting, historical, and romantic. The time period and geographical area Boeshaar has picked are fun and will undoubtedly produce many fantastic stories. The end of 'A Thousand Shall Fall' features a preview of [...]

    20. A tremendous book!I don't know if I could sum this review up in a few wordsere were a lot of twists and turns to this book. Well worth the read! I received a copy of this book for my honest review.

    21. This is a wonderful civil war era novel. This is the first book in the Shenandoah Valley Saga. Carrie Ann Bell needs to search for her runaway sister and ends up in the middle of a battle. She is saved by Colonel Peyton Collier. This book made me laugh and cry. I needed to learn all I could about Carrie Ann and Peyton. This shows what it was like to be near a battle. I received this book from Bookfun for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

    22. Well researched historical data; strong characters; a weaving of historical data with creative overlay. I plodded along the first couple of chapters because it read more like a history textbook, perhaps it was the author's intention of a backstory. In my opinion, lost one star because of a few errors, e.g. she "shuttered" vs she shuddered; "capitol" vs capital.

    23. Can't wait for the next bookThis book was a well written and compelling read. The characters really came alive. Sometimes with books that have as many characters as this one, it is hard to keep the characters straight. This book, however, was very descriptive and that made for some memorable characters.

    24. Great Civil War RomanceLoved the place and time. Plot, characters all well developed. Clean, historical, moving, diverting and entertaining. Going for the sequel .excellent writing. Folks you miss especially the secondary characters. The hero is the guy you want your daughter to marry and the heroin equally worthy of her future.

    25. Kindle freebie. Definitely on the better end of the contemporary Christian fiction I've sampled lately. Well-researched, no jarring anachronisms. Writing was okay but not amazing. Still put me back in Civil War Virginia and I enjoyed it.

    26. Cute shallow Christian romanceA bit shallow, and no great literary work. However there is something charming about this quaint story. Light quick readong

    27. I really enjoyed the story line but it took quite some time before it "gripped" me. Some details I felt were over described.
