    1. Reading this whole thing feels like reading a manga in a subdued mood (at least I know I was in one since it took me three full days to finish this). I mean, I really liked 60% of the book but I’ve a bit of a concern with the length of the story and the development of the story arc of each character. Here, we have Tokyo high school student Tsukino Ayumu who got sent by his parents to the small fishing village of Yuuyake to spend a school year and live with his grandfather. Ayumu’s not concern [...]

    2. It's more of a 3,5 stars. I really like this book! It has a manga feel vibe but in a novel and I think that the author succeeded in bringing these two worlds together by incorporing some illustrations between the pages. The first pages got me hooked already, it's calling for you. The story is about Ayumu moving to a traditional village and live with his gradfather. We'll see adventures and fantasy, supernatural events that's going on there. The only thing about this book is that the dream sequenc [...]

    3. I got this book from Indigo Marketing and Design in exchange for an honest review.3.5 stars rounded upFox Hat and Neko, set in a little fishing village called yuuyake in japan, features 4 teenagers how their lives get tangled up in saving the world. So basically, we know how this is going to end already. Here's what I think are the pros and cons in this story:1. The characters. The characters for me are the best part of this book. Really. They portray that teenage indecision, the confusion, and th [...]

    4. This book was provided by the author via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend this book to any readers who love fantasy/paranormal manga or anime. It certainly has the same vibe that I've come to expect in manga story-telling. Not just the setting being Japan, but the structure and characters with all of the layers and subtle twists are exactly what I expect from a manga. The pictures between chapters (which I absolutely loved) also give it that mang [...]

    5. Fox-Hat and Neko by August Li was provided by the author via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review. I have to confess that Gus is on my auto-buy list, as he excels at worldbuilding, whether it is this novel set in Japan or those set in a complete fantasy environment. There are several things I loved about this book, including the six main characters - two girls, two boys, and two paranormal creatures. Since the human characters are sixteen or younger, they start out as b [...]

    6. 4.5 Stars!A fantastical young adult tale of adventure, horror, magic, and high school unfolds as ordinary boy Ayumu Tsukino finds new friends and a valiant purpose when a fox spirit and a bespelled cat guide him to the truth behind his mysterious nightmares. I very much enjoyed this tale. The story and writing style appealed to my inner teen and I happily wallowed in that place where everything is taken at face value with a curious detachment or eagerly consumed with an obsessive life or death u [...]

    7. Reviewed originally here: nikkilizmurray/review-I received an advanced copy of the book from NetGalley and Dreamspinner press in exchange for an honest review.Fox-Hat and Neko, by August Li, follows the tale of a “chosen one” born in Japan, and his journey from accepting his special powers to the final defeat of the antagonist. Along the way he befriends a fox spirit, a cat demon, a cheerful artist, a determined archer, an impoverished baker, a heartbroken antique dealer, and a enthusiastic [...]

    9. I received a free copy of this book from IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review. 3 StarsI am not a big fan of Manga and this book was too much like one for me to really enjoy it. Readers who do enjoy Manga will probably like this book. I also feel that this book was just too stretched out. Took forever to get through and I found myself wanting to skip pages and just get it done. A condensed version of the story would have gone over much better. I have enjoyed many of this [...]

    10. I received this as an ARC from Netgalley courtesy of Dreamspinner Press, and I finished it in just one day, because I was so absorbed in the story from start to finish. The cover depicts what is clearly a kitsune, and a cat-like creature, but it was the title which attracted my attention. Nekos -or nekomata as they are also called – are a part of Japanese mythology – which I love, so i decided to request itMy full review on my blog.

    11. This story was interesting and had an interesting twist. There were a few times where things felt a little forced, or were key to the story but were just stuck in which is why I did not give this 5 stars.

    13. I loved the grandpa. He was cool. Edit this baby down by 100 pages and tighten up the story-bam, 2 more stars. Book Riot Read Harder Challenge: book by or about someone that identifies as LGBTQ.

    14. 2.5There were lots of good things in the book, but they were drowning in a sea of tell-don't-show.I cannot give a rating for what it could have been.
