    1. Loved it. A lovely story of a young doctor who has just graduated from medical school and moved to the country to start as an assistant GP. Laughter, pathos, tragedy and love. Stuffed full of fabulous characters. Have already downloaded book 2

    2. A very quick readRY reminiscent of James Heriot's books, stories, and style.Set in rural Devon, and it was difficult for me to decide the decade in which the story is setI'm still not sureuld be anywhere from 1960 to 1980.Writing: BStories: B+Humor: B+Charm: A-I'll read the next in the series, esp as they fly by so quickly, humorously, and painlessly.Addendum: Well. I looked the author up on the Internetd he is fascinating, prolific, highly controversial, and highly opinionated. He is a vegan, t [...]

    3. OK - this was a freebie and caught my eye. Afterwards I wondered if I'd made a mistake however If you can get the "All creatures great and small" connotations out of your head this is very readable. Newly qualified doctor arrives in North Devon as an assistant to a GP and he doesn't really know that much. This is the start at least of his education. The stories were moving, funny, heart warming and overall entertaining. Some of the lines in it are excellent (Bilbury is an insurance [claim] econo [...]

    4. This is very enjoyable reading and I think it covers the first 4 months of Dr. Coleman's medical career, in 1970 when he moved to a charming tiny village in the English countryside. A LOT happens in this book from humorous to his medical license coming under attack to worrisome incidents and a potential love interest is there too. I plan to read the second book, there are seven in the series.

    5. Good story.Couldn't give a five although I enjoyed the book. I quickly was drawn into the villiage life. There could have been more character development. Although this doctor cared about his patients , the text sometimes felt like I was reading a chart. I think I will read the next book. This man must have done somethings right to have over 100 books to his credit. Happy reading.

    6. A mighty fine readBelievable, likeable characters. Exceptional story-telling skills involving situations that are, in turn, hilarious, poignant, heart-breaking, redeeming. Descriptions of 'Bilbury' made me feel like I was there, seeing the village and its inhabitants through my own eyes.

    7. Enjoyable ReadI enjoyed this book. Easy to read with characters that readily came to life on the pages of the book. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series

    8. I liked this first story of the young country doctor when times were simpler. There are wonderful descriptions of the idyllic countryside and the local people. Reminds me a bit of James Herriot's writing. The story flies by quickly.

    9. Loved it.Anyone who loves the countryside ,good people, animals ,and young people starting out in life will love it also. A feel good story.

    10. If you like James Herriot Wonderful book and series. You will fall in love with the characters and the country. If you like James Herriot's books, you'll love this series!

    11. EnjoyableA refreshing tale of life in the country. I was easily able to imagine everything as if I was right there.

    12. Small village charmI will be reading more by Vernon Coleman. Charming and eventful. I laughed, was shocked, and mourned with the village.

    13. PeacefulA peaceful sweet book. Just the kind I want to read before I fall asleep. I've already ordered the next in the series.

    14. Adorable series about a young doctor in rural England, reminiscent of James Herriott. I am looking forward to reading the series.

    15. Very GoodA young doctor in the 1970s goes to a town in the English countryside named Bilbury. He learns a lot more about medicine and people. There are a few laugh out loud moments as he begins his life in Bilbury. This books reminded me of the James Herriett books.Happy Reading!

    16. Book 1 Country DoctorThis was a true reading enjoyment. At times you laughed and at times you cried but always felt part of the village and doctors life. Can't wait to start on book 2

    17. “The young Country Doctor” by Vernon Coleman, M.D. is book one in the Bilbury Chronicles describing the adventures of a young physician who enters general practice as an assistant to an elderly, eccentric physician in Devon, England. The author is a prolific and well known author in the United Kingdom. His book “Mrs. Caldicot’s Cabbage War” was turned into an award winning movie in the U.K.The book sort of reminds me of the James Herriot books about a country veterinarian in Northern En [...]

    18. Reminiscent of James Herriot or perhaps Jan Karon, this author introduces us to himself - a young doctor, fresh out of medical school and newly apprenticed to an elderly, wise, but independent and quirky doctor in Bilbury - a seemingly idyllic English village. While it stretches the readers credibility to believe that all these adventures/misadventures happen within just four months of arriving in town, it really doesn't matter. The author has great powers of observation and is gifted with an ab [...]

    19. Life is funny ,and differentA way of life not many of us experience,Written in a way that draws you into another day of the unexpected time well spent Going to read more of these books

    20. I enjoyed this story well enough to want to read the rest of the series. It would make a good PBS series if it were to be filmed. Kind of like Call the Midwife in some ways. Engaging story of a young doctor just starting his practice in the English countryside. The people he meets and his various experiences are comical, sad, poignant, difficult and happy; he has quite the range of experiences and relationships as he enters his new stage of life.

    21. I'm not sure how much of this book is fact and how much is fiction, but it was fun to read and the characters were interesting. The parts that could have been salacious were dealt with in a witty way, so there isn't really anything off-color. The language was clean too, which was nice. The honesty of many in the village is a bit iffy, but at least they take care of each other. I will definitely be reading the other books in the series.

    22. This book is delightful. It reminds me of humorous version of All Creatures Great and Small, with a rural family practitioner in place of veterinarian. The story is set in rural Devon England in 1971, and is based on the adventures of newly graduated doctor who has come to assist an elderly family practitioner. So much fun. And so interesting. There are six more books in this series, and that is something to look forward to digging into.

    23. A fun, interesting view of English village lifeBilbury reminds me of the lovely stories by Miss Read. Simple, interesting, quiet but complicated country life from a new doctors perspective. The writing is good, characters have depth and flaws, scenery depictions as interesting without being overdone. I highly recommend as a light read and will be checking out the rest of the chronicles.

    24. This was an enjoyable book on several levels. It was well-written, amusing, and touching and the subject was fresh - at least for me. It somewhat reminds me of Herriot's "All Creatures Great and Small", except the main character is a doctor rather then a veterinarian. I'm looking forward to reading the others in the series.

    25. English country doctorWhat a great first book about a young Dr and how he comes to love the country versus a big city hospital. Romance is involved and a lot of patients that come to love the Dr as he cares for them. So happy with the ending and can't wait to read the next in the series.

    26. Dr. Coleman's stories of his medical practice in rural England are a very pleasant read, with a good share of humor. His series is similar to that of Call the Nurse by Mary J Macleod. Both show that quaint local characters and the beauty of nature are not confined only to either England or Scotland.

    27. ReviewThis book, "The Young Country Doctor Book 1: Bilbury Chronicles was an excellent and engrossing read. The characters were described in depth and I felt as though I was one of them and living in the village with them. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

    28. Funny, sweet, just a lovely readMarie's Read (Marie Shirley Griffin)Similar to "All Creatures Great and Small", a newly graduated doctor moves to small village to become an assistant to an elderly doctor. This is the first book in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed it and plan on reading the rest.

    29. Reminiscent of All Creatures Great and Small but the patients are human, not animals. Young doctor starting out as assistant to eccentric country doctor in the English countryside. Lots of mishaps and interesting characters make for fun reading. I really enjoyed this book and have already started number 2 in this series.

    30. I'll most likely buy the next book. The best thing I liked was living the pace of country. The book also shows that people of country life are in many ways similar to other people and go through the same problems and transitions. By the end of the series, I hope I'll have bought my own farm
