    1. Book #11 for 2015This very short novella was an interesting glimpse into life in Paris as the Terror was gathering steam. I liked the perspective of a lower member of a once-noble and now ostensibly Revolutionary household. I also liked the quotidien details, though I must shamefacedly admit that I couldn't tell you how accurate they were or weren't.I found this a worthwhile read, but story-wise I felt that the setup was too transparent and robbed the reader of any real suspense. The only real q [...]

    2. Paris 1792. Revolution is taking place. Fear is yielding to terror.Celie Deleure, a servant in the household of Madame de Stael, loses her infant son in an unexplainable death.Powerfully written. It felt real, as though I were in the midst of anarchy. (I'm glad America has peaceful transfers of authority.)Famous names such as Layfette and Marie Antoinette were in the book. I knew a little of Layfette and the American Revolution. It's interesting to find out what he did concerning France. What a g [...]

    3. It was a good book. I could really feel the panic and collapse of, well, just about everything in 1792 Paris. Maybe that's one reason I didn't like this book more. I sort of liked that the ending was ambiguous. You could tell that the author believes/assumes that Georges will escape and get out of Paris, but I am not so sure. One theme of the of the book seemed to be that you can fairly easily undo your mistakes, but I am not so sure that's how it works in real life. That's another reason I didn [...]

    4. Why, yes, I've discovered Anne Perry's novellas. What of it? No, I'm not just reading them to pad my 100 books in 2013 numbers. Not totally. Perry is an excellent writer and, well, I'm verbose. I can't seem to write a MS shorter than 90,000 words and I REALLY WANT TO! That's one of the reasons I'm reading Perry's novellas. To get some tips from a writer I admire. The problem is, I keep thinking, "Wow. She could have really expanded this, that and the other" or "That was an awkward jump between s [...]

    5. A_Dish_Taken_ColdIf you enjoy history and a quick mystery read, "A Dish Taken Cold" is a prefect fit. The story begins during the chaos of the French Revolution when mobs are feverishly angry at economic and social injustices. They seek vengeance in the streets of Paris.Celie, a young widow and mother of an infant, also ponders revenge. Was her dearest friend, Amandine responsible for the death of her infant son? Does Amandine deserve the guillotine? Are her co-workers at the house of Madame de [...]

    6. A Dish Taken Cold A Novella by Anne PerryRevenge is a dish best taken cold. Anne Perry has sliced off a bit of the French Revolution and personalized it in the form of Celie, a young woman whose baby has died. Malicious gossip, true or not, bends the young woman to find her revenge in a most cold-blooded manner. The Revolution itself is a wonderfully drawn character. The madness is certainly felt at every turn. Will her revenge succeed? Should it? Take an hour and read it and find out.

    7. This was a very small piece of a book about the French revolution. It was kind of a moral story about forgiving. It did present a picture of what it was like in Paris during that stormy time. It seemed to lack a beginning and an ending. The reader jumps in with both feet and when the last page arrives the reader jumps out again.

    8. More like a short story than a novella. It was well-written and the ending was great! Definitely worth the hour or two it takes to read. Supposedly this book is much different than her others, which are mystery stories, and A Dish Taken Cold is kind of a prologue toThe One Thing More. I'm interested in reading this eventually.

    9. It's Paris, 1792, three years after the fall of the Bastille. A young widowed servant, a crib death, great historical detail and a mystery with a twist all contribute to this compact, compelling read.

    10. Very slim novella - I made it my "car book" so I would never be without something to read if I had to wait in the car. :) A short tale of intrigue during the French Revolution, it is unlike Perry's Thomas Pitt novels.

    11. Anne Perry crafts a beautiful story with this novella. Revenge is what Celie wants, and it's all too easy to get in the turbulent times of the French Revolution. What will happen when she sets her plan in motion?

    12. A short mystery that can be read in one day (80 p.) set in France 1783. Life is challenging in the turbulent times with little food and rebellion rampant. Who can one trust? How can one be safe? Twists and turns abound, with a surprise at the end.

    13. This was a very short book set in terror-ridden Paris in 1792. It's agood lesson in how we don't know all the facts about most situations.Wisdom: "He isn't an evil man, but you know yourself he tends to take whatever counsel was given him last."

    14. Excellent insights into the French Revolution from the servants' quarters. False assumptions made from bits of misunderstood gossip lead to life changing losses. Another mysterious darker novel as I find Ms Perry's books to be.

    15. Little more than a short story. A gripping look into the French Revolution from the eyes of a young widow.

    16. I quick read >100 pgs. Amidst tradgedy a woman learns to love over hate and the forgive instead of hold a grudge. A good book to use as an example.

    17. I found this book at a library book sale. It's short, takes place during the French Revolution, & has a nice 'twist' at the very end that I hadn't seen coming! Anne Perry has never disappointed me!

    18. 1792 - French Revolution. “One should forgive, for one’s own sake as much as anythingn’t you think?” Celie was glad she did.

    19. I find it funny that the sequel is five times longer but both are very well written, of course, it >IS< Anne Perry writing them.

    20. Anne Perry the historian rather than the famous mystery author presents this story. It is short but presents a picture of the French Revolution well worth reading.
