    2. Read the book in its original version (Tamil). I liked the way Ashokamitran narrated even the serious historical events with humour (something like a black comedy. Also he is known for details. But his descriptions of details never bore you. In fact, they are interesting (eg: his descriptions about the cricketing shots).

    4. I had the honor of interviewing the great writer at about the time I was reading the book in translation. Ashokamitran, despite his reputation seemed to be living a modest life open to meeting even the odd University student of no importance for a course project (interview). He explained his career as a writer and a key turning point. When he was younger, as am emerging writer, his English work appeared in popular outlets like Illustrated Weekly (probably guaranteeing a bring future). But he kne [...]

    5. The English translation of a work in Tamil. The book is set in the city of Hyderabad in the late 1940's and follows the story of a teenager named Chandru through the period of India's independence, the friction between independent India and the princely state of Hyderabad and the eventual less than peaceful joining of Hyderabad into the Indian union. The book nicely explores what it feels to be a minority (a Tamil living in largely Telugu/Urdu Hyderabad) and a majority (a Hindu in a minority musl [...]

    8. Amazing book , the backdrop of indian independence . The life of Chandrashekar an adolescent boy , as meaningless events happen and is seen through the eyes of the boy . Its quite amazing .

    9. Author describe about the people's life and their problems during the time of NIZAM SULTANATE joing with Indian union is excellent and too subtle.

    10. Totally a different approach to write a novel all together. This is must have been 'the USP of the book' which made the then readers to feel it to be a classic.Fabulous work indeed.

    11. The history we read in schools is always a story. This story is history. Last couple of pages wordless.
