    1. The gorgeous photography in this cookbook made me long for a neighborhood bakery like Butter Baked Goods. Since I don't live anywhere near Vancouver, BC, I am very lucky to have the cookbook to help me recreate their treats. The recipes reflect what is served in the bakery and cafe - muffins and scones, cookies, bars, cakes, cupcakes, pies and tarts, and then there are the marshmallows. Butter is famous for its marshmallows, in all flavors, and also a component in several of the recipes. Several [...]

    2. As I started reading the first pages, certain phrases jumped off the page at me and within minutes I knew that I would love baking from this book. Why? Because Rosie is just the kind of baker I adore, one who uses phrases like: "In my world, there is no substitution for butter" and "I have only three things to say about milk, buttermilk, sour cream or heavy cream: full fat, full fat, full fat". I could go on, but I think you get the picture.Full-page colour photographs of almost all of the recip [...]

    3. Yes. That is what I say about this cookbook - yes, all the way around. I have made 2 of her recipes so far and they were great. I was very impressed that she had not only 1, but 3 recipes that included Rhubarb (which is in season right now) so I honed in one them. Rhubarb Almond Muffins and Sour Cream Rhubarb pie did not disappoint!

    4. I want to stay home all day and make marshmallows!! And maybe a few cookies, and one cake, and some muffins, and possibly a batch of bars. I feel like I might need to own a copy of this cookbook. Thanks for the recommendation, Alison Nadvornik!

    5. Delish looking recipes for all kinds of sinful sweet things. I tasted a Dunbar while on holidays and it was divine. If all the recipes are of the same calibre, it is worth indulging.

    6. Another cookbook on trial on my shelf :)p. 123 - 3 stars - Chocolate Berry Cheesecake Bar - Nothing special, regular cheesecake, despite a pompous preamble; way too much sugar, too sweet even after cutting the original amount in half.p. 192 - 4 stars - Butter's All Butter Pastry - An ok pastry for tarts.p. 211 - 5 stars - Chocolate Chip Walnut Pie - Unexpectedly good pie, even the kid liked it.

    7. This is a very sweet, very delicious book. The muffin, loaf and bar recipes were highlights for me. Her instructions are very clear, there is at least one picture for every recipe, and the book is well organized. Two personal issues for me - she loves pistachios and coconut, both of which I hate. So there are a lot of recipes with those ingredients, but you can avoid them. This is a really good general baking book. This isn't for crazy decorating or trendy desserts, and it doesn't pretend to be h [...]

    8. This is my favorite bakery in Vancouver. They make the most sublime marshmallows and baked goods. I cannot rave enough about their raspberry and strawberry marshmallows. We make special trips from our home in the suburbs to the west side of Vancouver quite often just to go there. The true test of the cookbook though would be if I could replicate the taste and texture of the store bought baked goods when making them myself. My favorite cookie is the Big Sugar Cookie at Butter. I am thrilled to say [...]

    9. If you are looking for a great book on baking take a look at this one.I bought it for myself , as I was wanting to get back into baking. I was a basic baker, but never ventured too far, always did the same old cakes and cookies. But with this book I have become pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. I have made several of her squares and cakes, as well as scones (which were to die for) and even biscotties. All were very good. Never any left over in my home. The book is not only very good, but [...]

    10. I love this cookbook! I bought it because a couple of recipes from it were published in a magazine - i tried them and they were hits. What were the recipes? Pumpkin chocolate chip blondies, which are super moist brownie-like squares with chocolate chips in them. Great for picnics and lunch kits. Second , the carrot cake. Mine was a little dry - probably slightly overcooked but great flavour. The third recipe that really is a west coast classic is the rhubarb sour cream pie. Okay, it's not as goo [...]

    11. I haven't baked any of the recipes yet, but the book is lovely. I love all the photos, one for nearly every recipe. I liked that there is a chapter on bar cookies. Lots of classic desserts too and homemade versions of a few store bought treats. I will be trying the morning glory muffins, chocolate pistachio loaf, most of the bar cookies, and the cookies and cream (refrigerator) cake. Plus the s'mores with homemade marshmallows. Only drawback is lack of an index, not even a list under the table o [...]

    12. Pretty pastels are the rage in this bakery and in the pages, the design of the cookbook pulled me in to check out the recipes. The author/baker/bakery owner Rosie Daykin likes her ingredients real and full strength--whole milk, butter and high test chocolate chips. I will be trying out a few recipes, I'd love to perfect the icing swirls she attempts to talk you through. Some good stories and anecdotes to back up the recipes.

    13. I love the marshmallows and baked goods from the bakery Butter. I was so surprised and delighted to see that they included the recipes for my favourite sandwich-cookies. I have only baked the Morning Glory muffins so far and they were a hit with my family, friends and co-workers. I am looking forward to working through each recipe this holiday season. I highly recommend this book at anyone who enjoys baking/eating rich and flavourful treats that are Instagram and food blog worthy!

    14. This is a great book and in fact I found a recipe that is a KEEPER - it is the 6 Minute Cake and in fact doesn't require butter. We cut the 1 cup of sugar in half and it is great - more like a European cake - no icing and we can eat it plain with a cup of tea, with plain yogurt or whatnot. I remember a similar recipe growing up called Wacky Cake and this cake does not need eggs so quite quick!

    15. Pretty book, great bookmark and beautiful pictures. Lots of fun recipes. I used the chocolate cake recipe found in this book and it was a hit. I substitute the vegetable oil for butter which may have made my cake a little dry and the recipe made way more batter than I needed which made it difficult to bake. Will try more recipes from this book in the future.

    16. I want to go to Canada just to visit this bakery. Till then I want to make the little pumpkin pecan muffins, the mixed berry crumble top muffins, and the chocolate pistachio pound loaf. I read a lot of cookbooks and this one is a winner, beautiful pictures enticing recipes and a good explanation of how to temper chocolate.

    17. Another beautiful, delightfully sweet and tempting bakery cookbook. I may just have to buy you, Butter! Gorgeous food photos of cookies, bars, cakes, cupcakes and pies. Nothing too fancy, just simple done right.

    18. this book is beautiful. I love the photos and the design of the whole book. But the recipes are meh. Nothing to write home about, the outcome of the recipes is fine but not omg good. I've made about 5 or 6 recipes from this book so far, and haven't had the urge to go back and re-make any of them.

    19. Next time I'm in Vancouver. I'll stop by. I love this book. I've got a batch of tart shells in the freezer, lemon butter cream in the fridge, and some vanilla cupcake dough on hand. What could prove otherwise?

    20. I love this cookbook. I've made around 10 of the recipes so far and only one was a disappointment. My daughter requests the butterscotch rice krispy squares for special occasions. The pictures are enticing and make you want to go and make the recipes.

    21. Love these recipes! And they are all so simple to make - nothing fancy schmancy, just good old fashioned deliciousness. Highly recommend this book for ANY baker of any skill level.

    22. Definitely buying this one for myself and as gifts. Has many (forgotten) recipes with unique twists and easy to follow.

    23. Good illustrations; good instructions; lots of variety of recipes--and all the ones we've tried have worked well. This is one we need to buy.
