    2. An absolutely stunning, big, heavy book full of black and white photographs.Making over 32 trips over 8 years to various places around the world, through the extremes of hot and cold temperatures, and in some instances danger Sebastiao Selgado has taken photos of people, animals and places that most people have never seen. The photos are exquisite, showing his mastery of the camera as well as his love the planet Earth and the people and creatures that inhabit it. Salgado reminds us "We must pres [...]

    3. I'm probably biased from the stunning exhibition now in Milan, where the quality of Salgado's black and white photographs is off the chart; but this book is a really good quality collection of the Genesis project, even if the dramatic contrast of the photos got a bit lost in the prints, and I really don't approve the choice to print on double pages "cutting" them in half.Highly recommended to photo lovers.

    4. "Some 46% of our planet is still as it was in the time of genesis". It took Salgado more than 30 trips to collect these amazingly beautiful images of that 46% of Eden that still survives in spite of us: in spite of our greed, our stupidity, our blindness. Wild lascapes, animals, indigenous people as seen from light aircraft, boats, canoes, or simply walking. Salgado's gorgeous monochrome conveys the truest, brightest colours directly to the mind of the observer through eyes utterly spellbound by [...]

    5. Sorprendente, meraviglioso, inenarrabile. XD

    6. Whole review here: bojanfurst/?p=2634There are not many books of photographs that are truly important in a larger, social context, but I think that Sebastião Salgado’s Genesis is one such book. Aesthetically, philosophically, and even technically, this is not a perfect book, but, so far, it is this century’s most important collection of photographs. []If visual ode to the planet, a love letter of sorts, is what Salgado wanted to create, he has succeeded. That is why his book is beautiful, b [...]

    7. My introduction to Sebastio's work was his Genesis exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum. The beauty of his B&W images can almost be overwhelming and I've been a huge admirer of his work ever since. The beauty of this book is that you can linger on the images, take them in smaller bites, knowing that with 500 pages of images, there will be lots to entice you the next day, and the one after that. There are no filler images, each is an amazing piece of photography in an amazing environment, almo [...]

    8. A photographic project of remarkable scale and significance : If you happen to live anywhere near an actual exhibition of "Genesis", you should check that out (I personally haven't). If that is not the case, this book is a very good alternative way of experiencing the work.

    9. In praise of nature from the greatest.A tiny note for Salgado lovers: If you watch his biographical documentary movie, The Salt of the Earth, Genesis will most certainly gain a more special meaning in your heart.

    10. This is an epic, stirring collection of B&W documentary photographs of life on this planet in varied places, from the very hot to the very cold climate. The pictures are large one to two page spreads, so the viewer can absorb it fully on the already large pages. The images are breathtaking and have superb artistic composition. Though the images stand easily on their own, the separate text insert is extremely helpful with information on every single photograph and adds to the quality of the p [...]

    11. This was a monumental project for Salgado for which he traveled around the world for several years. Each location is special for natural beauty, important species, or vanishing peoples. Salgado's photography is stunning; information is given about the time of year, the significance of the subject, and the conditions for each photo. This large-format edition has many double-page images and as well as fold-out pages for extra large photos. I am grateful to him for documenting these remote places, [...]

    12. Clearly a modern master. Inspired to pick this up after seeing Wim Wenders' documentary on him, "The Salt of the Earth." Knew his work, know it better. Awe-inspiring, a tricky phrase to unload at the best of times, is totally applicable here.

    13. Salgado is perhaps THE master social documentary photographer, as well as a brilliant activist. Of his photography collections, this has become my favorite.

    14. I absolutely loved the movie, Salt of the Earth, based on this photographer's work and life. This large photo book is astoundingly beautiful, as well.
