    1. Five stars. When was the last time I gave a real book five stars? Small Town Girl is really wonderful. It's a war-time novel, but it's about a battle on the field of the heart. A struggle to be won with God and with human companionship love, not the Japanese or Germans of the outbreak of the second world war at the attack of Pearl Harbor, that's just the setting. Words Spoken True and it's 1855 setting Louisville setting put upon me to become a real fan of Ann H. Gabhart and while I am one that [...]

    2. Living up to its name in the best possible way, who’d have thought that a reader could be so charmed by a story that took place on the eve of a historical catastrophe, World War II? This book invests its readers, inviting us into a small-town Kentucky and leading its reader into a deep understanding and pull to care about what goes on in the lives of Kate Merritt and her family along with newcomer Jay Tanner – who, I don’t mind saying, completely won me over as an all-American “good guy [...]

    4. Kate Merritt worries love's passing her by until Jay Tanner shows up to charm her hesitant heart. Then Pearl Harbor changes everything-including Kate's chance for love. This was an engaging book that dealt with themes of trust, love, and forgiveness.I really loved all the characters in the book, especially the little sister Lorena Birdsong who Jay Tanner called "Birdie." I had never read the previous book in the series, "Angel Sister" but had no problem picking up this book and understanding all [...]

    5. The last time I read a book by Ann Gabhart, Words Spoken True, I was extremely impressed. Although Small Town Girl is set in a completely different time period with new characters I am still impressed with this author's work. I enjoyed that while set at the very beginning of World War II for America, it had all the emotion of a book that was set right in the thick of it like say, Sarah Sundin's wonderful WWII era fiction. Ms. Gabhart certainly knows how to tug at the ol' heart strings! The reason [...]

    6. Kate Merritt is a small town girl, we met her in Angle Sister. Now if you haven't read that book, don't worry, there is enough information in this one to make it a stand alone. We reunite with some of the characters from the first book, and meet some new ones. We meet Jay Tanner at Kate's sister's Evie's wedding to Mike. Kate has always thought herself in love with Mike, and Mike only has eyes for Evie. Jay's upbringing has been tough, but he always had a friend in Mike, and he is here to be bes [...]

    7. Thankfully, Ann Gabhart wasn’t ready to leave Rosey Corner, Kentucky, when she finished writing Angel Sister. Her latest novel, Small Town Girl, brings readers the story of Kate Merritt, the “angel sister” from the first book. The story opens with Kate helping her older sister dress for her wedding. One little problem—her sister is marrying the man Kate has been secretly in love with since she was fifteen. At the wedding, Kate meets the groom’s best friend, a charmer named Jay Tanner. [...]

    8. I really enjoyed the first book in this series – Angel Sister – so when I found out there was to be another book about Kate and her family, I was so excited. As I began the book, I delighted in returning to Rosey Corner and reconnecting with all of the characters from the first book. After I was reacquainted with the characters and the story, however, I thought the plot moved rather slowly. I appreciated that the author was giving Kate and Jay time to get to know each other – quick romances [...]

    9. What a perfect joy it was to open Small Town Girl and find myself back in Rosey Corner, with Kate and her sisters of Angel Sister, and all the other delightful characters. Kate is all grown up now, a young lady of nineteen years old! And her sister who is not a sister is as involved in this story as she was in the first novel. When Lorena gets a puppy, it just adds to the humor and excitement. A wedding is always a great event, unless the guy you love is marrying your sister. That's when emotion [...]

    10. What an adorable story! If anything is true, it's this: you can't judge an author by one book. In my case, I did not like Gabhart's Words Spoken True but I loved Small Town Girl. The WW2 setting, the sweet characters, and endearing love story all come together for a fantastic read. I loved how some of the character's accents popped off the page; it rounds the characters in a great way for me.Kate is a great heroine. I haven't read Angel Sister, but it is very apparent what a great big sister she [...]

    11. Kate Merritt has only ever loved one man, her sister's fiancé. But when Jay Tanner comes to town for her sister's wedding, her other sister, Lorena Birdsong quickly befriends him, but Kate finds him more than annoying. But when Pearl Harbor is bombed everything changesThis was a sweet small town love story with endearing characters that I couldn't help but be enchanted by, like Lorena and Graham. I noticed in the middle of this book that it was a sequel to the much acclaimed Angel Sister, yet i [...]

    12. My Thoughts: As a fan of Angel Sister, it was great to see Kate all grown up. Kate has her own thoughts and ideas, which doesn’t thrill Carl who believes they are a "couple." Jay, or Tanner as he wants to be called has sparked her interest. Pearl Harbor changes everything for them, like it did for everyone in 1941, with Tanner fighting in the war what will happen between him and Kate. Recommended!

    13. It's autumn 1941 and everything is changing--Kate's big sister is getting married (to the man Kate has crushed on for years), the best man is flirting, and then Pearl Harbor means friends and family are enlisting. This was really, really delightful--I love Kate SO MUCH, and Jay was an interesting character. I found it odd that characters and the narration complained about Evie's selfishness, but overall, she seemed to be very caring and invested in her sisters' lives. Similarly, no one called ou [...]

    14. awesome read. the characters here are so endearing and vivid, you can almost see them on film. Gabhart paints a realistic picture of life in the 1940s before and during the war. Decisions were made hastily during this era in history due to all the unrest overseas. Couples got engaged or married before the men headed off to war. But younger sister kate fears love has eluded her. two of her sisters have found it but will she ever. Will a man ever look past her nondescript features to the woman of [...]

    15. This was a great sequel to Angel Sister and follows the Merritt sisters a few years down the road. While this could be a stand-alone novel, I would recommend reading "Angel Sister" first as it gives a good bit of background that is helpful. We're introduced to all of them finding love and what that might mean for Kate. I love how these characters are so "real" and their situations are ones that could happen to any of us. Another great novel by Ann Gabhart!

    16. I loved this book! It was really good and entertaining. I loved the story line and the ending, and can't wait to read Love Comes Home!

    17. Kate Merritt's life is changing. Her sister is marrying the man she's loved since she was fifteen years old and her heart is breaking in two. Even the attentions of the best man, Jay Tanner, can't draw her interest. But with rumors of war heating up and a warning from her brother-in-law about Jay, Kate just can't seem to stay away. Even knowing he might leave at any moment. Jay Tanner has never found a reason to stay in one place for long. He never gets involved and never let's himself care, unt [...]

    20. It Feels Like I’m Back Home! (5 Stars)Small Town Girl (Rosey Corner Series #2) by Ann Gabhart (Revell)It’s been five long years since we’ve been in Rosey Corner. Kate is now 20 years old and just as free spirited and spunky as ever. Lorena Birdsong is just as sweet as ever and still saying her whole name every night! Kate’s older sister, Evie, is getting married to preacher Mikee one Kate has had a crush on since he first preached in Rosey Corner Church. And her younger sister has a beau [...]

    21. Title: Small Town GirlAuthor: Ann H. GabhartPages: 400Year: 2013Publisher: Revell Ann Gabhart has a wonderful recipe for a story in Small Town Girl by adding history with romance, sprinkling in some mystery too. The town of Rosey Corner is where the Merritt family lives in a population of about 100 people. On a September day, the oldest Merritt daughter Evie is getting married to Mike, with the best man being Jay Turner a lifelong friend of Mike’s. Kate begins to open up her heart to the possi [...]

    22. Small Town Girl is the sequel to the charming Angel Sister which came out in 2011. Five years have passed and the Merritt sisters are growing up. I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that a certain Lorena Birdsong is still a part of the family; I think fans would have complained if she wasn’t because her story is certainly very compelling. This is a sequel in the truest sense of the word. Events from the previous novel are often mentioned in passing so I definitely advise reading that one f [...]

    23. Kate Merritt rejoiced for her older sister, but sorrowed for herself. Evie was marrying the man of Kate’s dreams, Minister Mike Champion of Rosey Corner, Kentucky. Not only that, but war was brewing in Europe. Although President Roosevelt had promised to keep America out of the war, suddenly things changed with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. America declared war on Japan. The world was full of uncertainty. And then there was Jay Tanner, her new brother-in-law’s best childhood friend. He was han [...]

    24. The year is 1941 and Kate Merritt is in love with the man her sister, Evie, was about to marry. Kate had been in love with Mike Champion, a young pastor, since he had filled in at the church after her Grandfather had a stroke five years earlier. Kate had never been in the running. She was just the younger sister. Jay Tanner enters the scene as a friend of Mike's. He was known as a charmer and had a reputation for leaving a string of broken hearts everywhere he'd been. He was not the settling-dow [...]

    25. Swept away to the 1940's! I am now of the belief that no one tells a 1940's story about young girls growing up like Ann Gabhart does. It didn't me long in Small Town Girl to decide that I wanted to run away to Rosey Corner Kentucky and live with the four Merrit sisters, Evie, Kate, Tori and Lorena. Of course, I would only be living with three sisters because Evie just got married. In fact, thats how the story starts, with Kate trying to keep Evie calm until it is time to drive over to the Church [...]

    26. Ann Gabhart's "Small Town Girl" is a gentle and quiet love story set in the quaint town of Rosey Corner, Kentucky. While love is blooming, World War II is raging across the ocean and threatening the tranquil haven of the Merritt family. Gabhart captures the fears and sentiments of Americans when the U.S. entered the war following the bombing of Pearl Harbor without actually taking readers into the war zone. The military aspect is light, compared to some other novels that I have read set during t [...]

    27. 3.5this and other reviews on: larmstrong73I put off reading this book for so long because I wasn't crazy about the cover or the title. And actually, now that I've read it (and enjoyed it) I like the title even less; Kate is not a "small town girl." She has small town roots and values, perhaps, but she wants to travel, to see the world, to go to a university and move away. Doesn't sound small-town to me.I couldn't put this book down. Kate was very relatable. I got swept up in wanting to see her r [...]

    28. It was interesting reading about a small town that doesn’t really seem to exist much anymore. I can’t imagine living somewhere where everybody knows everybody else and you can walk from the church to the house holding the after-wedding party. However, it seems that Kate and her family flourish in this environment. Jay also seems to embrace this close-knit community.I rather enjoy reading novels set during WWII. While I’m sure it was terrifying to live during, wondering which one of your lo [...]

    29. Kate Merritt tries her best to be happy for her sister, Evie, as she marries the man that Kate has adored since childhood. However, inside Kate is breaking and not even the charms of the attractive best man, Jay Tanner, can draw her away from wondering what could have been between her and the minister. Not only is Kate dealing with this slight heartbreak, but rumors of war breaking in Europe are circulating, and Kate will soon come to find out that these are more than rumors; a full out war has [...]
