    1. Three and a half--I docked it 1/2 a star for being slightly dated (original print-2007). This book gathers the histories of media, advertising, consumerism, and the legislation of all three as they relate to American youth culture in the early 21st century. I found this book completely absorbing, though, admittedly, it only substantiated my burgeoning distrust of the advertising industry. (I've got my eye on you too, Google and Facebook, and your "anonymous" big data tracking and warehousing). P [...]


    2. My biggest problem with this book was that one third of the pages were not body text but notes. If there are that many notes, I as a reader feel that there are probably other places I should be looking for the information this book is trying to impart. Also, for a book supposedly addressing children and the digital age, there was an extreme dearth of children's voices (as in, next to none). I understand that many of the quotes were taken from scholars who have done work with children and so can [...]
