    1. Though this work was very effective in detailing Dickens' particular Christian belief and worldview, Colledge's jaunts off the topic toward general advice for the church and his repetition, intentional or not, took the last star away. Beyond those moments, he does an excellent job inviting the reader to see the distinctly Christian voice of the Inimitable Dickens and enticing him to revisit Dickens' novels with joy.

    2. Gary Colledge, adjunct professor at Moody, has written about Dickens in more than one place--and his work God and Charles Dickens, goes in-depth on this famous author's life and beliefs. Colledge brings to the table a passion for Dickens' work, which I really appreciated, as Dickens is my favorite author. Colledge makes multiple references to Dickens' works, as well as biographies written about him. Also, as he evaluates the religion and Christian references in Dickens novels, he brings to the t [...]

    3. Like most of the book's intended general audience, I have heard that Dickens was at best a marginal Christian - and have found this surprising, given the content of his writings. Colledge goes a long way towards clearing this up with his presentation of how Dickens was an average lay person in most of his theological views, and how this is expressed in his writings. With this in mind, Dicken's Christianity, which, as noted, is apparent in his writings, is explained and clarified. While intended f [...]

    4. There are parts of this book which are positively fascinating, and I learned a lot about Dickens as both a man and an author. On the whole, though, it feels unfinished and uneven. Over and again, the author tells the reader that Dickens's greatest example of Christian thinking is in his characters. There is not, however, a really deep dive into those characters. Dickens may well have more pages of text to examine than any other English writer, and yet this volume is only 175 pages (notes aside). [...]

    5. Highly repetitive. I thought it was going to focus more on Dickens work than it did. At times it felt like the author was using Dickens to support his own religious viewpoints.
