    1. FULL REVIEW POSTED NOW3.5 starsIntriguing romance with a sensitive side! The author did a marvelous job building a beautiful and sensual relationship between complete opposite personalities. Quinn Ramsay, a man with a life-altering decision to make, is a handsome, successful multi-millionaire CEO of his own sports conglomerate. In the past he’s been somewhat of a playboy and has been linked to many models and actresses. Emily Welland, on the other hand, leads a very low key lifestyle on an isla [...]

    2. Decent story. Emily is deeply afraid of men. No abuse or anything, just a few bad relationships. She has let herself become almost a hermit when men are involved. She makes some stupid decisions. I rolled my eyes when she did it. But she does make it right.Quinn is visiting the island to do some thinking, and becomes intrigued by Emily. He almost overwhelms her into saying yes to a date. There are a lot of issues they overcome and there is a HEA. Emily still has a long way to go, but she will ge [...]

    3. This is a sweet romance between two opposites. Where Quinn is outgoing and athletic, Emily is shy and reclusive. Yet circumstances have brought them together, meeting on the small island of Salt Spring. Quinn is at a turning point in his life, trying to make big decisions that will affect his future, and he's not quite sure where his future is headed. Emily is living her reclusive life, with her few friends, contended to let her past heartbreak continue to play on her currently and too fearful t [...]

    4. This story is about failed relationships, insecurties, desire, friendship and finally a whole lot of patience. Our heroine Emmi is shy to the bone when in social settings, past relationships have left her scarred and so she's wrapped herself in a cocoon of comfort, home, work and friends. Our hero Quinn is a successful businessman who is in the middle of major change and until recently thought he was falling in love with a starlet, but found that what he thought he had was case of lust and her nee [...]

    5. Another one of those meant to be love stories. When Quinn met Emily neither ever imagined that his vacation would turn into a lifetime.

    6. I tried so hard to like this book. The idea of a painfully shy but successful woman catching the eye of a worldly (yet world-weary) man had me all excited for a sweet romance. There are slight spoilers in this review, so be warned! My problems with it all circle around the characters just not ringing true to themselves. We are supposed to believe Emily is so shy that she can't even speak when people speak to her, especially men. A man she is well acquainted with comes in the muffin part of the s [...]

    7. Really 3.5 stars not 4, but I liked it enough to risk the average bumping up.I just finished this one. I'd put it in the "highly consummable category--ideal for when you've only got a couple of brain cells left to rub together after a hard week. Emily Weland is a bookshop owner with some ambiguous inheritance that gives her a little cottage, supports her bookstore and gives her half ownership in the bakery next door--enough so that she evidently doesn't concern herself with money with all of the [...]

    8. This was a fun, quick read. There was some pretty steamy sexual tension between the two characters, which is practically a must for me when it comes to romance novels, otherwise I lose interest. I also enjoy Byronic heroes, and I think Quinn fits that bill. I related to our heroine's social problems, though I didn't quite buy the origins of her anxiety: it just seems to me a bit more would be going on with a person who is suffering such extreme social phobia and panic attacks than is described h [...]

    9. Quinn and Emily are opposites - he's outgoing and sporty, she's painfully shy and "bookish" Neither is ready for a romance, but of course Cupid finds them! Hey, this is a romance after all :)The characters are well drawn, but I could have slapped Emily around for her shyness, which descended into the pathetic here and there. If it wasn't for her gorgeous looks, I don't quite see why Quinn would bother with her after the first outing, which was a mountain bike ride. However, Emily reveals herself [...]

    10. 3.5 stars. I really enjoyed Quinn a lot. And Emily at first was relatable and my heart went out to her. But when she dumped Quinn I thought she should have been more open and honest, though she eventually was. I felt the same frustration with her that Quinn did. I also thought she needed a better grovel. Quinn made it far too easy for her, but it all fit in with his openness and willingness to put himself out there.I enjoyed the story of their growing love very much otherwise.

    11. I thought this was a great love story. A powerful man and a shy, frightened women who come together. I love the atmosphere of the whole book. I was needless to say, "shocked" toward the ending there. OMG! I had the same feelings Emily must have felt in that moment the door openned with the "guests" My heart went to my stomach and the blood and air just left my body. I enjoyed the way the way the author wrote about the remote area. It must be beautiful. I can't wait to read the sequel.

    12. This is one of the best romances I've read this year! Maybe because I've struggled with shyness too, I could identify with the heroine. The characters were tenderly portrayed and the book was very spicy. Especially for a romance written in the early nineties. The author sure knows how to write sexy. Lovely writing style. Amazingly, the head hopping didn't put me off this time and usually it makes me drop a book.

    13. California manCalifornia manEmmi is a woman whom I could relate to, shy, nervous about love, her looks, etc. she tended to be reserved, until one day a man from California chores into her life. This man well show her how to love and live even when she tries hard to resist the changes. The book some sexual situations which may make you blush, but otherwise this book is great.

    14. Who doesn't love a rich good looking guy who falls for the shy local girl. Quinn is taking some time to think about selling his company and goes to a friends place on Salt Springs Island. Here he meets shy Emily the owner of the bookstore. He falls for her but can she fit in his world? This is a great story and I look forward to reading more from this author.

    15. short and sweet-- written for all women who have loved and lost gotten burned in the process -- are afraid of romance because of the past pain but who finally overcome the past to get the love they actually deserve! Here's to all those ladies who have the courage to let the walls come tumbling down-- for the right guy! :)

    16. What a wonderful way to spend my hour, reading a fast read that is so light, interesting, sweet and adorable. It was fun to see Emily break out of her shell and embrace love.Fighting off her fears and taking a chance of love with Quinn.I could totally relate to what this lovely couple are going through.Hope I would get more of her books,it would be a delight.

    17. This is a story of a shy, timid playwright, bookstore owner living on an island. When sports business tycoon, a city guy, comes to the island for a break they meet. He is determined to bring out the best in Emily. They develop a strong relationship that becomes the love of a life time. They agree to compromise and the ending is happy. It was a really pleasant read.

    18. A good romance story. I love Quinn and the way how he helped her overcome her fear . Love the way how they fall in love. I like the way how Emily used the term ' Red balloon' when she said to Quinn for being there in her life. Love the epilogue. Hoping to get the next book free whenever I can , about how Lynn and Paul love story.

    19. More 2,5 stars than 2. "Okay" (2 stars) seems a bit weak to me because it's a nice and well-written story. "I liked it" is a bit too much because while it was an enjoyable read, I also found it easy to put down.

    20. I really enjoyed this and plan on reading more books by this author. I liked the characters and the dialogue. It is a well written romance!

    21. This was cute, funny and a wonderful light reading story. Sort of a Harlequin Romance novel but great summer reading.

    22. Very good read, 3.5 stars. I really connected with Emily as I suffer from social anxiety, though not as severe as hers.

    23. It's a great Romantic story that is worth the read. The story is detailed with its location, characters and the growth of their love. Adorable reading

    24. California Man is a great love story, deals with a special child and is written in a lovely Pacific Island location, what's not to love about this one? I almost forget the happy ending.

    25. Really enjoyed this sweet love story.Quinn Ramsay escapes to quiet Salt Spring Island to make a big decision about his business. He is fully of vitality and verve. Emily Welland is the shy bookstore owner on the island. She has been unlucky in love, which has affected her dealings with people – especially men. She is prone to panicking and crippling shyness. Underneath her shyness, though, lies an exceptional woman, who is brainy and creative, caring and fun to be with. The moment she sees Qui [...]

    26. California man Omg omg! I loved loved loved this beautiful story. Quinn is a doll! I absolutely adored him. What a stud! He was everything I thought he would be. That man was deeply in love with her the moment he laid eyes on her. He was do tender, sweet, and so damn sexy. Definitely swoon worthy! ❤️I loved Emily too. With her shyness around men she reminded me of myself. His amazing patience with her as he helped her overcome her shyness was moving. The way he kissed her just made my heart [...]

    27. First Book I've Read By This Author But Will Not Be My LastFirst Book I've Read By This Author But Will Not Be My LastThis the first book I have read by EC Sheedy and I'm hooked. My interest in reading span from simple romance to erotica. California Man falls somewhere between the two and I loved it. Sometimes it is just nice to read about a love that grows without all the angst some books go with. Emotions with a little struggle but build to what you hope will be a wonderful relationship, make [...]

    28. The summary for this book is well-written, so I'm not going to re-write it here. This book is a modern day spin on Cinderella. For readers who love a good romance, are willing to suspend reality and just believe happy endings are always possible, you will likely love this book. Unfortunately for me, I'm a cynic who wishes she wasn't. Because I was never fully convinced that Quinn could fall for Emily, this book didn't work for me on all levels. That said, it was a fun, easy read, and I did like [...]
