    1. Liked the book Wish it was scarier. Would recommend to anyone who likes young adult or adult books. Did take author awhile to get to point.

    2. I read this novella early in the year, but never got around to reviewing it. Mara Purnhagen’s skill shows in the fact that, when looking for something to review for today, I opened it up, read a synopsis that has nothing to do with the story I read–this is an interlude in an existing YA series–and the key elements of this story came pouring back.Charlotte Silver is torn between two worlds, that of the unseen, and high school. She’s a survivor of a recent attack and a current sufferer of [...]

    3. a little bland. maybe because i didn't read the other ones, but this one alone did not make me want to touch the other books in the series. nothing really happened the whole time. just a cute short story about forgivness.

    4. Today was a day for quick reads! I also just finished Mara Purnhagen's Haunting the Night! This was book 2.5 as well that takes place before the events of Beyond the Grave which is out now. Having already read that, I still decided to read this since it was a free read! Yup, right now at you can get it for the amazing price of $0!This time around Charlotte is dealing with extreme guilt over what happened to Marcus, the poor young man who was possessed by the demon and was killed. Charlotte begi [...]

    5. Charlotte Silver is a senior in high school, dealing with things that she shouldn't have to deal with. her family and her are recovering from an attack that left one man dead and her mother in a coma. Mentally, she is trying to get over the guilt over what has happened, as she feels that it is her fault. When a "shadow man" starts stalking her nights, she decides she must seek a way to end her guilt by solving the mystery of who and why all of this happened. For me, this book starts out a bit co [...]

    6. This was a nice little jump back into the Past Midnight world. The events pick up not long after book 2 ends and it deals with the repercussions of the attack on Charlotte and her family nicely. I can also see some nice setup for things that will be dealt with in book 3 -Noah's bruise being foremost amongst those things.Naturally, Charlotte feels guilt over what happened to her mother. She's dealing with it by telling everyone she's fine and ignoring the shadow creature that has started appearin [...]

    7. I do love Purnhagen’s writing, but I am finding a trend with these novellas. Although slightly removed from the main storyline and being too short for a complete novel, I’ve found that I don’t care for these novellas as much as I do the actual books in the series. While these short novellas, especially Haunting the Night, give the reader more insider information pertaining to the characters, I feel like they are a little forced and not as well written as the actual novels. I would love to [...]

    8. I've had the third/final book in this trilogy waiting to be read for about a month now, but I didn't want to get stuck into it until I read this novella. It fits between the second and third Past Midnight books. A month after what happened in One Hundred Candles, Charlotte's life is not a happy one. Sure, her best friend is supportive, she's got a very understanding boyfriend, and a bunch of people willing to help out but her mother's in a coma. And her father is keeping a bedside vigil at the h [...]

    9. This book is set in between One Hundred Candles and the last book, beyond the grave, in the Past Midnight series.Charlotte can’t get over her guilt, her mother is in a coma and a man is dead. Blaming herself she can’t work out how to continue with her life, to make things worse every night she sees a shadow outside her window and as each day passes it gets bigger. Could it be linked to her feelings of guilt and if so what can she do to make it disappear. This book wasn’t bad, it was very sh [...]

    10. This is definitely just a glimpse of a larger series. SO what I was reading really didn't make much sense to me. I suppose I should have done a little research before reading this small novella. It's basically about Charlotte who's been seeing a black apparition when she walks home. Her mom is in a coma and her dad is working or by his wife's side leaving Charlotte home alone. The apparition is getting bigger and bigger. Avery, Charlotte's best friend is begging her to go to Prom but she feels th [...]

    11. Haunting the Night is available only online, a novella that fits between the previous full-length novel One Hundred Candles and the next (and last) full-length novel Beyond the Grave. Novella or not, this has been my favorite of the series. Once again, Purnhagan brilliantly blends the paranormal with the mundane, the latter almost the forefront of this particular story. This book was extremely emotionally charged, making me cry at times right along with the characters. There was also a considera [...]

    12. lili-lost-in-a-book.cIn this short story, after the attack of the Watcher through the body of Marcus, Charlotte starts seeing a humanoid shadow. This happens each night, and she sees the shadow right across the street from her house! Charlotte is sure that this ominous, creepy shadow has to something to do with the now-dead Marcus, and perhaps, the Watcher himself. Charlotte tries to figure out what the shadow wants. She wants to appease it and get rid of it before someone gets hurt again. To be [...]

    13. Again (I say again because I felt the same way about the first novella in the series), this was a little rushed towards the end, and the final climax felt kind ofobvious. Or something. But it's a short story, so I wasn't really expecting a whole lot, and even though I don't LOVE Mara Purnhagen's in-between-books novellas, I still think they're a heck of a lot better than most authors' in-between-books novellas tend to be, so I cut her some slack. And I really like her characters and how they int [...]

    14. Charlotte Silver reflects on her past. Her family had been attacked by something and her mother is in the hospital. She has a boyfriend named Noah and her best friend is a girl named Avery. She herself has been injured. She also has a sister named Annalise. Her parents investigate paranormal phenomena.A guy named Marcus had died as a result of something that happened to her and she carries a great deal of guilt about over that. Then a strange creature stars to appear near her home from time to t [...]

    15. I’ve read every book in this series. I’ve had this one in particular on my Kindle for a while and haven’t gotten around to reading it, but I figured I’d go ahead and wrap up this series.Charlotte Silver’s family is famous ghost hunters. This time around, though, they’ve messed with the wrong spirit. With Charlotte’s mom in the hospital, barely alive, Charlotte is doing her best to keep herself together. But when a dark, shadowy figure won’t stop following her, Charlotte has to fi [...]

    16. This is a really quick read. It doesn't stand alone and won't make sense without background that was provided in the earlier books. However, if you have read the earlier books then I definitely suggest this novella. Charlotte deals with the aftermath from 100 Candles, including her mother's coma, a shadow creature, & prom.

    17. Entertaining, but a very simple intro. Simply written, not very deep or detailed. But entertaining, yes. Didn't really explain anything that happened, just expected you to know that it did happen and that's that. Maybe it goes into further detail in the series. The climax was VERY anti-climatic.

    18. Good short story. Charlotte is still dealing with what happened to her family. Her mom still in hospital and she feels guilty about all that went down. That guilt is making her afraid and she's having a hard time.

    19. Quick read.Free kindle downloadcond in a series that I might have needed to realize before reading. Apparently the family are psychics who are visited by dark spirits. That was a very small part of this particular story, but confusing if you weren't aware of the history.

    20. how cute!! I absolutely love Noah. He is amazing. This short story is all about forgiveness and moving on. Charlotte feels guilty about Marcus. She thinks she may be the reason he is gone. We get to see Mills. He is awesome. :)

    21. A short story but all in all a good read. If only the rest of use could find people that care so much for us that their entire world revolves around our happiness.

    22. I read this awhile ago but never reviewed it. From what I remember, it was enjoyable and kept my interest engaged in the serious but nothing outstanding.
