    1. *** 4 ***Mostly Rick stories. How he got his tats and his cat transition:) Good addition to the main story line.

    2. Cat Tales features 4 short stories in the Jane Yellowrock series. Each are enjoyable and give you a little background on Jane and Rick. I’ve only read book one Skinwalker; before I picked these short stories up. I think I should have at least read up to book three Mercy Blade; before diving into the short stories and novellas in the Jane Yellowrock series. They are good, but Blood, Fangs and Going Furry #3.2 gave some things away.— The Early Years #0.2Jane is 18 and leaving the children’s [...]

    3. I somehow skipped this collection of short stories as I read though the Jane Yellowrock series. I was still able to enjoy the stories now, as three of the four are prequels anyway. The Early Years – I’ll admit, I have wondered what it was like for Jane to consciously shift into her Beast for the first time. After all, from the time she was 12 until she was 18, she had no idea what she was. She suppressed the voice of Beast in her head. She had no memory of her life Before. This story follows J [...]

    4. Actual rating 3.25 - averaged for all 4 stories. The Early Years: 3 starsCat Tats: 3 starsKits: 3 startsBlood, Fangs and Going Furry: 4 stars

    5. Enjoyed the introduction to Faith Hunter as an author and Jane Yellowrock. The reviews had me not sure if reading this as my 1st book was a good idea but it has me interested in checking out the series. I suspect I will want to reread some of the shorts as I get to the parts of the full series they fit into as they will make more sense. An enjoyable read, interesting characters, interesting world building, glad to have come across this during my recent urban fantasy research.

    6. The Early Years - 4.0 starsAn 18-year-old Jane follows an instinct she doesn't understand and finds her way back home. It gives me FEELS.Cat Tats - 4.0 starsOh, look. Ricky Bo got himself in trouble b/c chasing tail. SHOCKER.This one's told from Rick's POV, and if you've been curious about how he got his mountain lion/bobcat tattoo:Rick didn’t know what it meant to have the cats here on his body, beneath his skin, part of him MEANS NOTHING. I like this one b/c lot and lots of PAIN for Rick (wh [...]

    7. If you're familiar with the world of Jane Yellowrock then these short stories will more than please. If you haven't read any of the Jane Yellowrock stories then these are a good place to start although I think you'll enjoy them so much more if you actaully read the series and honestly if you like Urban Fantasy in any form then you owe it to yourself to read the Jane Yellowrock series. In Cat's Tales we're introduced to four stories that not only add to our knowledge and enjoyment of Jane but are [...]

    8. Loved, loved the four short stories. Two of which I had read before, but re-read along with two new ones from Faith Hunter. Jane Yellowrock has to be one of my all time favorite series' and anything that gets me to North Carolina, riding along on Jane's Harley, in my mind is an excellent and all around good time. I got a much deeper understanding of Jane when she was just starting out at a tender age fresh from the home for children in the first story. The last story also gave me an insight into [...]

    9. Short stories I just love short stories. They add content and perspective to the series. First we explore how Jane Yellowrock discovers her lost home and how beast is able to escape the mind cage Jane forced her into. The second story explores how Rick LaFleur ended up with those tattoos. The third story allows us to see how Molly Everhart and Jane became the friends they are now. The fourth story allows us to see how Rick's life transforms after surviving the weres. A taste of Raven Cursed is i [...]

    10. I had already read most of the other stories that were previously available to read for free on Faith's website, but I really wanted to read the new one that was set directly after Mercy Blade. You know with Ricky-bo, and the smell of Big Cat.It was short but very sweet. It has definitely whet my appetite for Raven Cursed which I'm going to jump straight into next. I forgot, I think, just how cool Jane is. Love the head bob thing. She rocks! As for Ricky, well, I wish him luck- he's going to need [...]

    11. 4/5; 4 stars; A-This short story was a GREAT addition to the series. I never really warmed up to the character Rick LaFleur in the other books. This story gives some insight into his character and a bit of his history. Really enjoyed it.

    12. Really good collection of short stories set in Jane Yellowrock's world. Learned some new info about Jane and Rick both. Especially appreciated the story from Rick's POV regarding the events that happened right where Mercy Blade picked up.

    13. Since all but the last story I read on March 30th, that's where I'm putting this! Great collection of stories about cats of all kinds and yeah, really great to read!

    14. I had to read this because Raven Cursed was confusing me on the alpha thing with Kenembi (spelling? listening to audio books over reading). I was a bit irritated I had to stop and read this to understand exactly what happened. I like short stories, the added insight. However, I hate when something pivotal happens in one and I miss something that adds to the main storyline. I will go through and read all of these at some point, but for now, I just read the one that mattered for story continuation [...]

    15. The book is short, that's ok. It provides back stories that help fill in gaps, especially for Rick. Most importantly, it provides the scene between books 3 and 4 in the series. Worth the whole price just for that.

    16. "The Early Years"Short story that's shedding some light on Jane's childhood years in Catholic orphanage. We know she has no recollection of what happened to her before she stumbled from woods as a kid. She didn't know language and we find out she was perceived as feral child. That and Beast's voice she had to practice to suppress didn't make her very popular among other kids, so she was a loner right from the start. We also know she took bullied kid under her wing.Beast and memories makes her fina [...]

    17. Rick just ruined this book. I can't stand him at all, so I did not enjoy reading about him. I did however like reading about Jane's early years, and how her friendship with witch Molly started!

    18. "Cat Tales" by Faith Hunter is a collection of short stories from the Jane Yellowrock universe. The Yellowrock novels compose one of the best urban fantasy vampire series on the market today. As anyone who reads this genre knows, most of these series focus on the supernatural rivalries between various groups of preternatural beings (vampires, weres, etc.) and are often seen from the POV of a protagonist drawn into their world from the outside. That’s true in the Yellowrock novels as well. But [...]

    19. A quick and fulfilling read to update you on some of the things that happened before book 1 each and after book 3Read before bk 4 to understand some of the things that happened therein. Good read and informative about Rick and his inability to shift .

    20. This is a great collection of short stories best read between Mercy Blade and Raven Cursed (Book 3 and 4) of the Jane Yellowrock series. Raven Cursed starts out hard and heavy with Jane back in North Carolina (as planned at the end of book 3) but it also throws in some information about Rick LeFleur that you might feel a little "when did that happen, and how" about. The final short story in this collection of four answers all of those questions. The first story details Jane first leaving the Chi [...]

    21. This was an interesting little collection with four shorts, the story/timeline for the series and some bonus info on the vampire clan affliations throughout the series. Three of the four shorts were apparently available at some time on Hunter's website (I had read Kits there)Here's a quickly list/summary of the shorts:The Early Years - Jane is "eighteen" or as close as they can guess since she was found as a child and has no memory of her past. Striking own after leaving the children's home wher [...]

    22. This is a collection of 4 short stories set in the world of Jane Yellowrock. Two of the stories star Jane as the main character, one has Rick as the main character, and the last Jane and Rick share the lead role. There is also a fairly long(3 chapters)preview of another Jane Yellowrock novel.I really enjoy paranormal stories especially when they mix mystery, action and a little romance into them. (I am not talking about those stories that have a sex scene every other chapter with enough graphic [...]

    23. Four stories from the world of “smart, sexy, ruthless” (according to New York Times bestselling author Kim Harrison) heroine Jane Yellowrock. Explore the world of shape-shifter and vampire hunter Jane Yellowrock in these four stories. Meet Jane as she leaves the orphanage she was raised in and encounters the witch who’ll become her future best friend. Discover the story behind Cajun cop Rick LaFleur’s cat tattoos, and the powerful witch who inked them. And, in the final, all-new story, f [...]

    24. Pre-warning if you don't read the other 7 books in this series you may be lost (This reviewer managed to read them all in a few days to give an accurate review of this book. The original post was due on Friday, September 26th but) This is an overview review of the series as well as this book.Hold on to your seats this is a fast paced action packed emotional book (The entire series was but that is another thing) that was kind of surprised by. If you like Patricia Brigg's Mercy Thompson series or [...]

    25. 4 short stories set in the Jane Yellowrock universe. The Early Years ~ We get to meet Jane just as she's leaving the group home and embarking upon her life as an adult where the first thing she does is try to find the place she has seen in her dreams. It's the first time in her conscience memory Beast takes over her form. It's an interesting little footnote but doesn't really give much detail of her past.Cat Tats ~ We finally learn where Rick's cat tatoos come from and a bit of his backstory whi [...]

    26. All of these stories fit into the Jane Yellowrock urban fantasy series. None of them are stand-alone short stories. The Early Years was about Jane leaving the orphanage (tons of backstory there), going on a "spirit quest", and discovering that some of her dreams were actually memories. She shifts for beast for the first time since she emerged from the woods.Cat Tats is the story of how Rick was nearly enslaved by a crazy female vampire and the witch she was blackmailing while working undercover [...]

    27. A must have for fans, these short stories tell us what happened to Jane Yellowrock at 18 (when Beast let herself be known again), how Jane met Molly (this one was free on FH's website), the reason behind Ricky Bo's tattoos. The last short story is a must read to understand the next book, I fear. Unless in the next novel Ms Hunter explains this story again. (Absolutely personal: I'm not sure I like this. I dislike anthologies and if this short had been published in one, I would have lost this inf [...]

    28. I read Cat Tales: Four Stories from the World of Jane Yellowrock (An eSpecial from the New American Library) and it was awesome (I did not read the exerts from the next Jane Yellowrock book to be released next month. All the stories were great and the Cat Tales actually filled in some blanks for those of us addicted to Jane Yellowrock (in my top 5 series, great action). For short stories I have them 5 stars since they did not leave me wondering a ton of things, They had a beginning and an end, o [...]
